Nags Head In Great Missenden

I booked a table in the outdoor tipi months in advance, specifically as we were dining with our young children in tow and needed some extra space. On arrival staff couldn't retrieve the full booking and the system had apparently randomly allocated us an indoor table. These things happen, but instead of resolving this quickly and smoothly by giving us a table (which we could clearly see was free and ready) in the tipi, staff insisted that was reserved for people who had yet to arrive and may or may not have wanted a table in the tipi. We tried to sit inside but it was simply too cramped, by which time there were even more free tables in the tipi. Eventually we insisted they find us space outs...

The service was slow to start with, as we waited 10 minutes at the bar before being seated. We ordered roast beef and fish and chips. The beef was decent, but the potatoes and vegetables were overcooked and bland. The fish was very oily and the chips were overdone, with a very hard texture. Both dishes arrived quickly, before our drinks even came. The lemonade lime was flat and had no lime flavor. When we asked about it, we were told that they had just added lime to it, but it was still flat. The beer was also tasteless and flat, so they removed it from the bill. Overall, it was a disappointing experience. £25 for a poor quality roast, flat drinks, and subpar service. We would not recommend...

Unfortunately there was a mix up with our mains which meant we sat at the table for over an hour before we got them. We had to remind the staff twice and on the second occasion a manager came to our table and apologised and reduced the bill as compensation. I think the first time of mentioning it, the young waitress just forgot to look into the problem. Once a more experienced member of staff was approached, it was dealt with. This would not stop us going again as the food is very good.

Food was very good and initial service was very good but after taking our order at least 3 other tables arrived and were served before us and one even managed to get 2 courses before we chased where our main was. The first waitress did not come back with a response so we had to chase another member of staff until we finally got our main course after 75 minutes. Some people had great service but at least 1 other table faced the same problem as us. Don’t know why but disappointed.

The service at this restaurant was lacking. Despite having a table booked, there was no reserved table for us upon arrival. We had to wait a long time to be served at the bar, and when we finally got to order, we were disappointed to find out that the menu was limited. The food was overpriced and there was no follow-up on how our meal was. The hostess seemed to be trying her best, but it felt like the restaurant was either understaffed or the staff was not well-trained.

We sat outside in the garden staff all very friendly and helpful main courses were delicious; cannot fault but desserts were disappointingly not to same high standard won’t stop us making a return visit we’ll just try the starter menu next time and skip dessert and did spy some very interesting gin cocktails going to other tables keen to give one of those a try next time too!

Delicious food with generous portions at this restaurant. The mushroom dill soup was particularly delightful, as was the Sunday roast. The high quality full English breakfast and fresh fruits served for breakfast at the B&B were also exceptional.

We had a very nice late Sunday lunch after a long country walk. Main courses were lovely and very filling. I wasn’t that keen on the pork and bread appetiser. It was my second visit to the pub and I would certainly go again.

It was ok. But not special Although I live dogs in a pub not so sure about them In the dining area and definitely not on someone’s lap at the table !!

An awesome seasonal menu. Attentive but not fussy staff and lovely wine list
