Unfortunately the tone was set when we walked through the door and were not greeted with a friendly smile but a slightly annoyed “ how many?” The place was nearly empty at 4:15pm on a Thursday late afternoon but we still had high hopes because of the great reviews! We ordered two draft beers, a hot lobster roll and the fish and chips. The lobster roll was served on an awkward piece of cardboard With a giant lettuce leaf on top of the bun, The pieces of lobster were set upon the lettuce. The roll was served with french fries. Additionally, when others in our party requested crispy French fries, she corrected them by asking if they meant "well done," which we agreed to. However, the fries that came out were barely cooked. She blamed this on the new oil they were using, which didn't sit right with us. Having lived in Vero and dined at this restaurant multiple times over the past 15 years, I can confidently say we won't be returning. The prices are high, and while I don’t mind paying for good food, being treated rudely by our waitress, Brenda, is unacceptable.
First time in today. I ordered 2pc cod with fries cole slaw. Bit into my fish and it was raw.... couldn't get the mushy taste out of my mouth. 2 very small pieces of fish. I told the waitress and all she said was she would adjust the price. Never asked if I wanted more fish and didn't apologize. You wind through the outdoor seating to get into the restaurant (weird)! Place was dark, unappealing and very old. Not impressed. But... hubby loved his clam chowder!
We make an hour-long journey every time we visit this restaurant, and it's always worth it. We ordered the Connecticut Lobster Roll, chicken pasta, cheeseburger, fish nuggets, whole belly clams, mate dinner, and some Boston cream pie. We especially enjoyed the onion rings and scallops. It has been years since I've visited this place. However it always served up deliciously what was on the menu and is known for its lively atmosphere bringing friends and family together in south Beach melbourne. It's home to the locals.
It's not overly flashy, but the food is delicious and reasonably priced, and the staff is very friendly. I definitely recommend checking it out. By the way, my chowder was fantastic!
I wish there were more options for local fish and seafood. Most of the dishes we tried featured cod and haddock.
