Dinner with the missus on a Tuesday night. Fairly new place like an informal cafe. It is clean and tidy with wooden tables. It's not full but a quiet stream of mainly Somalian customers. Lovely friendly cook/owner.Food is an interesting blend of middle eastern and indian influences.We shared a platter consisting of a lamb pilaf, a samosa, two chick pea parcels ( with green chilli dip ) and a yoghurt/coconut desert plus a small lovely warm lamb salad. Interestingly the food came with bananas which you are supposed to eat with your main meal.The pilaf and salad were nice with large pieces of lamb. My daughter and I were on our way to see the circus at Flemington race course and were looking for a quick meal beforehand. Came across this cafe/restaurant and are so glad we did. It is small inside but clean and modern fit out. Small menu too, but what they do, they do well. We had the platter for 1 ( entree, main and and a dessert) and the chicken wrap. Both meals very generous and fresh quality. Most expensive meal was only $19, so also fantastic value. Some locals were eating with their hand in the traditional manner, but there is also cutlery for those not so skilled. Staff friendly and helpful. This restaurant is funky, fresh with fantastic food. Hubby came across it to fulfill his goat cravings, while they didn't have goat on the day i couldn't be happier. When we stepped in wee were greeted by friendly staff and old skool hip hop music. Each table had fresh lilies in glass jars set upon industrial chic tables and chairs. I ordered the chicken wrap and husband the sampling platter. Both our meals were cooked perfectly. The spice was perfect bout hot but flavoursome. The servings are large in size which isn't an issue for a big eater like me. I look forward to coming back here.
A casual small café type restaurant which serves a banana with every meal..bonus.My daughter had a mixed dish with fish and goat which came with spiced rice and salad.My son had chicken and rice.They both loved their choices.I chose the lamb with rice and salad,somewhat disappointing compared to theirs.I expected a lamb stew but instead it was a lamb chop,a bit chewy.Easy to find and a relaxed atmosphere..prices average. We discovered this place when it was fairly new and have been back quite a few times now. The owner/manager and staff are really friendly and the food is consistently delicious. I go there specifically for the special of fish with rice (also goat, lamb etc options). There are a lot of good cheap restaurants around this area of Flemington and this place is definitely right up there with them. Give it a go.
6 of us went to lunch. We all ate with the banana The food was fresh and tasty. Make sure you try the goat with cauliflower and broccoli shred instead of rice .You get a banana at the start the banana is "a thing that comes with all dishes — rice, spaghetti, there’s really no rule.The pilaf and salad were nice with large pieces of lamb. We recently moved to the area and thought we'd try this out. It's so so tasty, friendly staff and summery music. I'm not going lie, realising they only have alcohol free beer was not a happy moment and I don't think I was the only one! Alas. We'll be back for the food for sure! Great price, generous portions!

Dropped in for take away. Unsure what to order. Staff recommended a lamb dish with some rice. It was simply delicious. The lamb was tender and cooked perfectly. Will definitely recommend the new Somali kitchen.
