The dingy appearing deli vibe and decor fits NYC vibes very well, a la Essa Bagel in the East Village circa 2011, as does the long queue. The extremely slow moving service was not so much NY. The offerings reflect NY options like lox sandwiches and lox spreads. Their bagels, however, are a poor excuse for a NY bagel. Just extreme breadiness. Poor outer crisp. None of the inner chewiness. We tried their lox sandwich as well as other bagels with jalapeno spread. Not the worst flavors. Just disappointing on what tastes like excessively thick bread. Not a NY bagel but rather, about the same as toasting a bagel from Costco.Parking: Very small and crowded lot
One of my all-time favorite bagel places. If you see a line and wonder if the wait is worth it...I promise you it is. It's the closest you can get to real NYC bagels. I got the onion bialy and cream cheese and essentially inhaled it...it was amazing. The bialy was tasty and crispy, the onion wasn't overbearing, and the cream cheese was some of the best I have ever had. It was creamy and tangy, and didn't leave a weird aftertaste or hurt my stomach. I also had a cherry cheese strudel, which was out of this world. Seriously. I don't eat a lot of sweets in the same sitting, but I ate the entire strudel in probably under 3 minutes.
For years this place had consistent food and staff. Then they didn't. Partially probably from the pandemic, or maybe the pay is terrible. Either way, the staff they can find is sub par. The younger people they get are extremely rude and clearly hate their jobs. The rest cannot seem to get orders right. I come here out of loyalty. I know how it used to be, but now? If it continues this way, I'd be surprised if they had any customers left.
The best bagels in Chicago!! High quality ingredients. Option to choose salad or meat, and different types of sandwiches. We recommend challah and the bagel with poppy seeds. They have ice tea and 0 cal Dr. Browns in different flavors! This is a small place only with take out/delivery options. Staff are super friendly and provide top customer service. We’re very happy to have found this place and will definitely be back!
I have to agree with reviewer James Cho that this was not a bagel at all. It was just some kind of dense bread. definitely not what I was expecting from a bagel in Chicago, even though it said New York and online they said that New York bagels are not different from Chicago. Bagels are supposed to be boiled and then baked. it's supposed to be soft in the middle and chewing on the outside and shiny.
This is by far the best place in the chicago area for bagels. Even their sandwiches are super good and come with tons of meat. Cream cheese made in house too and a big selection of sweets. There might be a line during the weekend or other busy times, so I’d recommend going at more odd times as they’re open 24/7.Food: 5/5
First time trying this place out and it was really good. I got a plain bagel with jalapeno cream cheese just to test it out to see how it was. It was really good and I definitely recommend coming to those who haven't tried it. They have a variety of bagels and spreads and also other things that you can add on.Food: 5/5
I love that they are 24 hours. Every so often, I stop and grab a half a dozen with some of there house made cream cheese and my family is happy for the next week. For the same price as Costco's dozen, I get local, fresh bagels that last far longer!
Second trip here. Both times have been exceptional. The bagels are my favorite. As for the flavor, nothing like around. The cream cheese is made fresh and super creamy. Definitely top place to stop if visiting the Chicago area.Food: 5/5
