We attended the soft opening for the second weekend and were told by the staff that the night was overbooked, resulting in a 15-minute wait. However, we ended up waiting for 45 minutes and it seemed like they forgot about our large party, which could have easily been accommodated at the largest table available. Instead, they split our group by seating a small new party next to us. The service was a bit disorganized, with no water or menus provided until we had to ask for them ourselves. This will be the third time that a reservation was made (twice by me, once by my sister about a month ago) on Open Table and the restaurant did not receive the reservation. There is a disconnection somewhere between Open Table and the restaurant. It was very frustrating trying to explain to the hostess, showing proof of the reservation, etc. The restaurant has ample room to accommodate more people, but they don't. There is an area across the restaurant (that is in plain view) that is for private parties. There was no party, plenty of room in that area, but they still would not sit anyone. I have been to The Night Owl three times, twice recently. I have had a different server each time. All of them were incredibly nice, very polite and accommodating. Three times the drinks were delicious. On the first visit I had a specialty cocktail that was amazing! It was called a Bee Lavender, (or something close to that). It was yummy and the presentation was lovely. The next time I had another specialty cocktail that was unique and a chartreuse color. On Thursday I had a gin gimlet and it was perfect. They close at 10:00 P.M. so, I was really watching the time. Not once did they make us feel rushed.
Our dining experience was not pleasant. Many of our orders were either incorrect or took a long time to arrive. My cocktail (mandarin twist) was delicious, and so was my entree. Unfortunately, my husband's meal was not made as requested, and his meat and au jus were served cold. His salad was also prepared incorrectly and came after our entrees. The small table did not have enough space for the salad, making it challenging to enjoy. The staff was friendly and courteous. Hopefully, the issues were just due to inexperience, and the restaurant will improve in the future.

We were seated, then ignored and not even acknowledged. After being ignored, they finally took our order but then refused to serve us. We had to watch others at the bar order multiple drinks and dishes while we waited. I will not be returning to a place that wastes my time like that. If they do not want to serve us because we are not to their liking, they should just say so and we will not waste our time. It was a relief when they thanked us for leaving after not serving us or even acknowledging us for 30 minutes. Thank you as well!
Talk about hospitality Luis and Edward have been more than enough they have made us feel like we are a part of the kitchen a part of the bar if you are looking for somewhere to feel appreciated needed wanted this is the place to be night owl which is also a part of a ocluto this is the place to be sit at the bar ask for Luis ask for Edward and you'll be taken care of 100 times fault the owner or the over manager Craig came out very kind we definitely will be back on Monday
The experience at this restaurant was extremely disorganized. I arrived a few minutes early but was still asked to wait for a table. I was never notified when the table was ready. There was no specific server assigned to our table. The tables were small and seemed to be more for decoration than for practical use. We waited almost an hour for our food, only to find it dry and unimpressive. Getting the check took a long time due to the lack of organization.
Please don't misunderstand my rating. This was only the first weekend of their soft opening. We spoke with the owner about their plans for the space, and believe it will be a fantastic spot in Castro Valley. I anticipate giving this place more stars as it grows and gets better. We loved the craft cocktails they offered and are excited to see the menu expand further.

Way to go, Night Owl! Why did it take us so long to check this place out?! We will be back! Nate's craft is literally award winning! I am picky (anywhere I frequent knows this), and this was HEAVEN! Thank you, Castro Valley, for bringing some San Francisco quality our way!
