We walked up to this mountain hut but it is possible to drive via the toll road. And there lies the problem. We arrived just after a coach load of people. Nevertheless there was still room on the terrace for us and we served on good time. Coffee and cake was perfect and readied us for the walk back down to Filzmoos. It is in a beautiful location at the foot of the Bischoffsmutze. There's a tiny little chapel there too which seems new which is unusual. Definitely worth walking rather than driving if you are able! Footpaths keep you off the toll road most of the way up and down. But allow 4 hours there and back (from Filzmoos) if you want a tea stop too.
The Oberhofalm is at the top of the scenic road from Filzmoos. You are surrounded by rocky peaks. You can get up, even in winter, by car (with great snow tires), by horse drawn carriage, or on foot. We walked and the hike made us ready to eat! The food is wonderful, especially the grilled sausage plate with smashed potatoes and sauerkraut. It was busy when we arrived but quieted by the time we were finished. I only put 4 stars because our server (who is one of the owners) didn't seem all that interested nor attentive. The food was great as were the drinks (hot chocolate with rum and an after-meal schnapps).
You get to this 350 year old building by a narrow winding road with a toll, by horse carriage from Filzmoos, or taking the nature trail from Filzmoos; or, as we did it, on horseback. They have a very tasting sausage platter with sauerkraut and potato puree and tasty beers. While we were there a moderate sized group came and there was a guy playing the accordion and singing Austrian songs and yodeling. Loved it. Great way to spend a few hours and enjoy the food, the beer, the fresh air and the spectacular scenery.
Das Restaurant liegt oben im Dorf, etwa 3/4 Meilen den Hügel hinauf. Wir entschieden uns für den Pferdeschlitten, sahen aber Wanderer, die traditionell angezündete Fackeln trugen, was wie eine Herausforderung aussah, also etwas für das nächste Jahr. Das Essen und die Atmosphäre sind fantastisch... hier sind die Besitzer sehr hilfsbereit und freundlich, das Kürbisrisotto für den unbeholfenen Vegetarier in unserer Gruppe war fantastisch und mir wurde gesagt, dass der gemischte Grill auch ziemlich gut war! We decided to hike one day from the village to the small lake (Almsee) close to Oberhofalm and we decided to have lunch there. They have some specials of the day. We tried the asparagus cremesuppe and the goulash suppe and also one cordon blue to share and the three dishes were very good (specially the asparagus cremesuppe, it was amazing 5*). The total price with two beers was about 32€ so very good price in a place with an incredible landscape.
The restaurant to nestled at the top of the village around 3/4 miles up the hill. We chose the horse drawn sleigh but saw walkers carrying traditional lit torches which looked like a challenge so something for next year. The food and ambience is fantastic here, the owners are very helpful and friendly, the pumpkin risotto for the awkward Vegetarian in our party was amazing and I'm told the mixed grill was pretty good too!
Been here lots of times; summer, winter, by sleigh, taxi and on foot. Always has great food, particularly the liver cooked various ways. Service is efficient. Sometimes has traditional music which is always a bonus. A traditional and charming taste of Austria.

Go there and eat the fab schnitzels. Good service, fab food and really good value. Seriously, the schnitzel is fantastic!
