I will start with a positive....food presentation is Super and the sauces on all the food was fabulous. (Lipstick on a Pig)That's as good as it was though. I ordered the Prime rib special, it looked absolutely mouth watering when the table next to me got it. It was so tough I had a hard time even cutting through it, never mind chewing it. I sent it back and was the told they were out of the Prime rib and they would replace it with a New York. We stayed at the hotel attached to this restaurant and I was meeting some friends who reside in Grande Prairie and they chose this restaurant. I had suggested Greek, but they insisted on this restaurant and after walking in and tasting the food, I'm glad we chose this place. We ordered drinks, I had the Absolut Straight up Martini dry, my friends ordered a Bellini and a Beer. We got a plate of bread and it was likely house made, it was delicious. It arrived with a dish of olive oil & balsamic vinegar and I could've just had that plate to myself for dinner, it was that good. I started going to Padrino's early in 2016 when I was in town for work. Not expecting much from a hotel linked restaurant. Boy was I mistaken. Staff was incredible. Friendly, charming and very professional. Food was absolutely incredible. First time I have ever had lamb because I was told "I just have to try it". Wine selection was excellent as well as I am a huge Malbec drinker. After that first encounter I always made it a point to stay at the Best Western. A shout out to Robynne and Krysta that always made me feel welcome and made being away from home a bit more tolerable. Thanks for everything. I booked Padrinos back room for my grandparents 60th wedding anniversary, to have a small family dinner. You can bring your own champagne or wine for a corkage fee $20. We also could bring our own cake my mom had specially made for them. Our server was great and attentive. The food was hot and good as always. My husband is Italian and says the food is fairly authentic and close to the way his Nonna (from Italy) used to cook. I'm a huge fan of the focaccia bread that you dip in the red wine vinegar and oil, as well as the gnocchi. Yum! The breakfast (when the items are kept filled) is also delicious. Almost every time we stay in Grande Prairie we eat dinner here!
Our server Krista was wonderful. I always have the lamb and would highly recommend this dish. Choice of wine was excellent. Our overall dining experience from start to finish made for a very enjoyable evening. I would definitely recommend Padrino's. The only disappointment was the halibut dish which was over cooked,dry and under seasoned.
Ordered the Shrimp and Portobello mushroom gnocchi for dinner. The gnocchi was very over cooked, extremely soft, almost soggy. Had the complimentary focaccia - it was just dry old bread. I would try this restaurant again before eating at Tony Romas accros the parking lot, but not with high expectations.
Went with a friend to have a girls night out and had great service and an amazing supper. The server was really knowledgeable about the menu and the caprese salad and the mussels were delicious. Grande Prairie has alot of great places to eat, however if you're looking for a place to go that you can dress up for, Padrino's and the Office are your two choices. Of those two, Padrino's has the better food.
