My family has been frequenting Pastina for 30 years now. We used to live in the neighborhood and would visit at least once a week. Even though we now live further away, Pastina is still a go-to spot for our family. It has become a staple for us, whether dining in or getting takeout. It's also a favorite of our parents, who are from New York and appreciate good Italian food. The food at Pastina is always delicious, especially the chicken parmesan, penne alla vodka, and chicken cacciatore. And don't get me started on the bread - it's amazing! Delightful find on Westwood Blvd, a few blocks north of West Pico Blvd but with quiet residential streets either side which makes this a real neighborhood place, as I noticed staff and manager chatting with regulars. I had a delicious dish of sand dabs (very Californian small fishes, a bit like sole). The helpful and friendly waiter said I could substitute a simple spaghetti with olive oil and garlic for the potatoes, and sauteed spinach for the roasted veg, and leave out the capers in the lemon butter sauce... A customized dish that suited the mild spring evening perfectly. The house Chardonnay was perfect accompaniment. If I lived in LA, I'd make myself a regular, too!
I have been a customer at Pastina since they opened 31 years ago, and that alone speaks volumes about how much I love this restaurant. The food is always delicious, the service is fantastic, and the newly renovated interior is cozy. Frank and Nancy Catullo are fantastic hosts, and their son, Casey, is friendly and welcoming. I highly recommend this place.
Pasta was delicious and authentic. My salad was perhaps, a tad bland but overall, great. Chatted with the owner, who was super personable.
