I was really disappointed during my recent visit. My girlfriend and I have been fans of this place since 2021, but after not going for a while, we were let down by the changes. The birria tacos were fantastic, but unfortunately, the shrimp tacos barely had two pieces of shrimp, and the shrimp, steak, and chicken tacos were completely lacking in salt. Portion sizes have shrunk significantly since 2023; the rice and beans were about half the size they used to be. Additionally, we were informed that they don't serve tacos on weekend mornings, even though we arrived at 2:30 PM. We had to ask for a dinner menu and found out that tacos could only be ordered as part of a combo with rice and beans....
We absolutely love this restaurant—it's easily our favorite in Capitol Hill and probably all of DC. It has an upscale feel, but it's more foodie than pretentious. Every dish is beautifully presented, whether you opt for the street tacos, guacamole, or the tuna huarache with seabass. The restaurant itself is elegantly designed and always has a great ambiance. While the food and drinks are exceptional, the best part is the service. Everyone treats us like family and genuinely cares about making guests feel welcome and getting the details just right. Our favorite server, Maria, is likely the best we’ve encountered at any restaurant. We can’t recommend this place enough!
I stopped by Paraiso Cafe for coffee on a weekday morning. Although the service was a little slow, the staff were incredibly kind and attentive. I highly recommend their food and beverages. I had the Cafe de Paraiso, a latte made with homemade horchata, and it was fantastic. Just a tip: be sure to stir it occasionally, as the almonds settle and it can get quite thick and difficult to drink towards the end. The atmosphere is wonderful, with great decor and ambiance. They also offer WiFi, making it easy to work from the cafe. Overall, I would definitely recommend this place!
I absolutely love this restaurant and the food it serves. I sat outside on a gorgeous day and enjoyed some tacos along with a few drinks. The tacos were fantastic! I had birria tacos and a taco trio that included chicken, carne asada, and wild cod. The guacamole trio, featuring salsa macha, mango, and traditional tomatillo, was also incredible. However, when it came to dessert, it wasn't quite to my liking. I was hoping for something freshly made, but it tasted like it had been pre-packaged and kept in the refrigerator. I stopped by this hidden gem for lunch with some coworkers, and it definitely lived up to the hype! The restaurant is stunning and made me feel like I was somewhere far from DC. The staff was exceptionally friendly and efficient. Plus, the lunch special is a fantastic deal! I ordered three tacos—cod, shrimp, and chicken—and they were all flavorful. I also tried the kale salad, which was just as tasty! I would absolutely come back again.
We had dinner here during a visit to DC. I love me a good margarita and Mexican food and Paraiso was perfect! Everything was tasty and the service was great. The guacamole could?ve been a little bigger for $14 but that?s ok. The Diablo margarita wasdelicious. We got the tres leches for dessert, huge piece but not as moist. Overall great dinner and will come again!
Paraíso Café opens at 8:30 AM and is an excellent spot for remote work! The atmosphere is beautiful, and they offer delightful drinks such as a horchata latte.
