Don't be mislead by the Royal Show award ribbons in the window and everywhere inside the cafe. I should have known better that a cafe that has to self-promote in that manner can't be very good.
I had the "French" lemon tart. Well, the only think French about it was the label on the cake. The pastry was incredibly hard and ice cold. It felt like it came right out of the freezer. Not the crumble you would expect from a French pastry tart. Also, it was way too thick and the custard was covered in gelatine - yuck.
I asked about the freshness of the tart and was told that they were made each day on the premises. If that's the case there is no need for all that gelatine.

It’s been too long that I have been here, but I was craving something sweet this sunny and warm Sunday afternoon. I have loved this place for many years, and have never been disappointed with their pastries and cakes. Casual and relaxed it is a gem in South Freo. Today I had the French lemon tart with a cappuccino, and for later, an almond croissant. The girls behind the counter were friendly, and made me a nice hot cappuccino. The lemon tart was deliciously tangy with a nice short crust pastry. It’s nice to sit here and enjoy the passing traffic. Will always come back!
It's a tiny little place on a corner of South Terrace with the majority of the seating outside on the side street. It's a very pleasant spot to sit on a spring afternoon and there were many people soaking up the sun. The pastry on the cannoli was a little too crispy, the filling in the raspberry frangipane tart a little stodgy but both had lovely flavours. Coffee was fine, service was friendly.
I am in mourning. Please bring back the maple pecan plait. The last few visits they have been missing - I berated myself for arriving so late in the day. I am early today - my worst fears realised - the plait is no more. Please bring back the plait - I have never seen it anywhere else and it would never be as good. If the price of pecans has gone up I will pay more.

We got tired of all the trendy breakfast spots so decided to keep it simple for a change - dropped into La Vespa on Sunday morning after a swim. Coffee, tea, pastry and scone were all perfect and the service warm and friendly. Nice, homely atmosphere amongst the friendly locals. I think we will be doing this more often. Thanks for making our day.
We were very pleased with the chocolate mouse cake we ordered from here. It was moist, chocolatey, creamy and everything a good cake should be. Along with this we also ordered a fruit flan which was also a delight . Service was excellent and good value for money. Highly recommend this cafe

La Vespa is the place you need to be. Plus if you want a cake for an occasion, then they will cater your needs.

Our product that we ordered was great! However the service we received was unbelievably rude, the old lady was impatient and didn't seem to want to help us. This almost overshadowed the tastiness of the cake!

Very annoyed that they don't take eftpos but have an in store atm that charges $2.50 per transaction. I'm sure their product is good but for the aforementioned reason I won't be shopping here again.
