We are familiar with many Wetherspoons locations and have dined at 2 others in the past 3 weeks, but the quality at this particular restaurant was subpar compared to the others. One of us ordered the same meal as before, but the portion size was much smaller. Additionally, the food was cold and congealed. The most disappointing aspect, however, was the drinks order. We placed our order on the app, but encountered several issues. Initially, a server informed us that the beer we selected was not available, so we chose another option. When our food arrived, we were already a third of the way through our meal when one drink was finally brought to us with an apology that the other was on its way....
Gobsmacked! Popped in here (on March 7th at lunchtime) to grab a quick bite to eat. Before ordering, I popped to the Ladies. Was shocked upon exiting cubicle to find a Penny Black male employee hovering around in the ladies loo. It wasn’t obvious what he was doing but he caught my eye, failed to say ‘excuse me’ or ‘I wasn’t aware there was a female using the toilets’..instead, he just stood there and glared at me. The door to the toilets was shut. I can’t remember the last time I felt so uncomfortable. Surely, a male employee entering a women’s toilet should, at the very least, call out upon entering to see if any female is using the loo? Shame on you Penny Black for not training your staff...
In penny now waited 10mins for my order to be taken I was next in line the female who was serving ignored me and went to serve someone who had just arrived when I pointed this out I was told I wasn't standing close enough to the bar for her to notice me as I was there for 10mins if she was customer aware she would have seen me I was made to feel stupid and unwelcome staff member needs more training table was dirty had to ask for a cloth to clean it and no apology given
I have spent loads of evenings in the Penny but tonight after being offered a drink by an intoxicated lady I was refused a drink, just because I knew someone who was drunk ,the manager Courtney) refused to serve me,I was fully aware of my surroundings and just wanted a drink for the 2 of us not the drunk lady) but was refused, I am 53 years of age and never felt so humiliated in all my life.

Why oh why do we put up with such a disgusting and dirty place. Im surprised someone has not been ill just by sitting at a table. Being asked to clean a table you get, that's not my job. DO NOT use the app for drinks it takes too much time and quicker to go down the road and drink in another pub. If using the app do not except then to arrive quick and you do expect rude staff
This is a typical Wetherspoons, usual good standard of food, friendly service. Strange choice of items of decor for what was once a post office though, knights helmets and tapestries? The place also looks a little tired and could do with a bit of a spruce up. Our table had initials scratched into it and some varnish missing, sand chairs were a little grubby
I was impressed with the great real ale choice with both Rev James and Sea Fury ales, which are 2 favourites of my wife and myself, available. The pub was clean, staff were friendly. Food was so so, could have been a bit hotter. All in all, an enjoyable visit.
I had the ham, egg and chips, my sister had the fish, chips and mushy peas. Plenty of food and very tasty. A very nice lunch after a morning of shopping

This is an excellent pub with friendly staff. I enjoyed a delicious and hot lunch today and will definitely be returning soon to eat here again.
I stopped by for a quick drink while in the town center, and it was just as I had anticipated - affordable and pleasant.
