We walked in the back entrance from the carpark. It was early, it was quiet people-wise, and it was very much plywood heaven - floors, walls and counter. While it may be "effortlessly cool" as The Weekend Edition has it, it is a wee bit lacking in ambience. I think we both expected something a bit more traditional with that Olde English-y name. There was some (increasingly) loud music playing, which Mr P. and I found rather nerve-jangling. I ordered a glass of rosé, which was very cold and very delicious on a hot summer's evening. It was my brother-in-laws 40th birthday and he wanted to have it somewhere memorable, and the Ploughman Bar was perfect. Not overly huge, but had a real boutique feel about it. They also had a big selection of board and card games available, which was pretty cool after a few drinks. Food...the platters served got devoured. They also closed off the whole bar to the public for the afternoon, which was great. Four really nice craft beers on tap and a great selection of mid shelf spirits. Also an area outside if you wanted some air. All in all it was a top night and if I was back in the areas again I would drop in for sure.
We found the Ploughman by accident but now you will find us here at least once a fortnight. Great beers, fabulous home made pickles and amazing wines and spirtits. This is a great spot to relax and catch up with friends.
