Dishes lacked flavour, in particularly the vegetables in oyster sauce which was more like steamed vegetables in water with a small amount of finely chopped garlic. Tasteless. When we requested some oyster sauce, the dish was taken back to the kitchen and returned with a drizzle of oyster sauce. When we requested some more oyster sauce, it was taken back to the kitchen and returned with a reasonable dollop. The main waiter Simon was helpful and charming. The older lady (owner?) was quite dismissive. At $18.80 for a small bowl of tasteless vegetables, the price is not justified. We were pleased to see ling fish on the menu rather than the typical basa, unfortunately the dish was only average....
We visited Portia's and were pleasantly surprised by the atmosphere and attentiveness of the staff, And then the food arrived.OH. MY. GOD. The duck spring rolls and dumplings were amazing, with the house infused soy sauce. then Special fried rice with Deep fried duck breast and the Special Pork Belly in Dark vinegar sauce was one of the best chinese I have ever had.Cost about $100 for two of us, But I would've spent more if I had of gotten takeaway elsewhere. And the owner is one of the nicest people I've had the chance of meeting whilst eating.
We visited Portia's Place on a Friday night. The staff were very friendly, helpful and extremely efficient. This was the best Chinese food I have ever eaten. In our group, we had the roast duck pancakes- a truly memorable experience and the steamed scallops - to die for. We had black pepper beef, sizzling ling fillets and seasonal vegetables- perfect. Gluten free options were easily discussed and decided upon. This was a wonderful eating experience.

We frequented Portia's Place regularly over the years we lived in Canberra and again now, when we returned to visit.
The delightful Portia welcomed us and remembered our favourite dishes & drinks every time.
Although Portia has now moved on, we still return to enjoy our favourites - san choy bow, spicy mustard chicken, duck & green beans, & ooh la la - shantung lamb!!

Expensive and with average food and service, would not recommend for the price. Ordered dumplings, Chinese tea, a vegetable noodle dish and chicken stir fry dish, followed by fried ice cream for 1 person (all of which were average in quality) and the bill came to over 100$ without alcohol.
Very expensive for very average food would not go back and would not recommend. Staff were very attentive but other than that it had nothing going for it. I dont mind paying high prices for good food and this definitely was not good
The meals are awesome, service is amazing, the staff make you feel like you are at home. On a more gossip note, one can see a lot of federal politicians eating there, current and previous Prime Minister included.
Portia's place has been around for a while now and is consistent in their fresh flavours and nicely cooked meals. The prawn san choi bau is a favourite, as is the crispy skinned duck

Portias is great, everything you want in a regular Chinese restaurant.
The wasabi king island beef is an amazing dish, and the duck pancakes also
The service was great and the food was excellent. We highly recommend the crispy lamb, we will be back next time we are in Canberra.
