As residents of Portsmouth, we had to visit this restaurant for its namesake. It is a charming place with very friendly and welcoming staff. The decor is quite interesting and you could easily spend hours admiring it, almost like a seaside museum. The restaurant is dog-friendly, which is a big plus for pet owners. The food looked fantastic, although we did not have a chance to try it. It is worth noting that they do not have a license for children, as is the case with some other pubs in the area, so be sure to double-check if you plan on bringing kids. We visited on a Sunday in June 2023, having popped in around 6 months earlier for a pint just before they closed. This time we were there for opening and after checking the menu decided to try the Sunday Roast. We weren't disappointed as the staff were friendly and welcoming, and the food was out of this world. Both the Pork and Beef options came with all the trimmings you'd expect and the veg was especially delicious. Really good portion sizes too. It did get quite busy whilst we were eating, so booking ahead is probably advisable if you want to guarantee a table. But whether you're there for food or just a drink, you won't find a friendlier pub on Poole Quay.
Dave and I have been regulars at this restaurant for years. Liz, the owner, is amazing. She is always friendly and welcoming, but also no-nonsense. The food is delicious and the historic pub has a traditional feel. It successfully combines being a pub and a great restaurant. I always enjoy visiting Liz and her team. One of the top pubs in Poole, without a doubt. If you want a traditional atmosphere with great beer and fantastic food, you won't find better. Keep up the good work Liz!
During our Christmas break in Poole, we stumbled upon The Portsmouth Hoy without any prior knowledge of the area. They warmly welcomed me, my partner, and our chocolate Labrador. The menu offered a great selection of delicious food, with the lasagna and scampi being particularly plentiful and tasty. The staff were friendly and attentive, creating a relaxed atmosphere in the pub. We were thrilled to have found this gem!
Great sociable atmosphere. A little more upmarket. Good food choice. Character pub with nautical flavour right on the quay Just had the very fresh and not overcooked cod and chips. Wife and I enjoyed fish and chips and lovely prawns in white wine garlic sauce. Great value at nearly half the price of some other pubs and restaurants on Poole Quay and in the Old Town. Good beers and friendly service.
Fantastic food and atmosphere. One of the best collections of naval memorabilia I've ever seen and super friendly staff. Highly recommend the fish and chips too!

The staff are lovely. Nice and chatty. Food is amazing best crab sandwich I have had. Lovely place to be any time of the year.
