My wife and I have been going to Posillipo in Canterbury for the past seven years, and in that time no other establishment has been able to usurp its preeminence as our favourite restaurant in the city. Any reviewers who complain about the quality of the food (especially the pizzas and the homemade pasta dishes) are most likely not accustomed to authentic Italian cuisine. As a man of Italian descent (and with the whole-hearted agreement with my genuine Italian friends in Canterbury), I maintain that Posillipo offers the best, most authentic Italian food in the area. We've lived in Canterbury for 11 years and when we fancy Italian always go for one of the obvious large chain restaurants, we didn't know about posillipo until a colleague at work recommended it. We're so glad she did, the atmosphere is great, so was the food, the service was perfect, attentive but without being in your face and the wine was wonderful. The perfect place to go before going to the Marlowe, no rushing or bringing your main when you're still enjoying starters, as experienced in the well known restaurants. A visit to Posillipo was the perfect start to a great evening. There's only one place we'll be going when we fancy Italian in future.
We spent a night in Canterbury so needed to decide where to eat. Online Posillipo looked and sounded good, but in reality this was different. The interior was rather old and cramped and the food offer, which was quite extensive, proved to be disappointing. It has taken a long time to get good pizzas in the UK and so we expect this standard now... Posillipo did not fulfil the promise particularly as the dough could have been better. The staff were attentive and concerned when we questioned this.
Having taken this from other reviewers recommendations I was not disappointed; what a little gem. Fabulous authentic fresh Italan food with a good varied menu and daily specials. All of our food was delicious, fresh and beautifully presented. The staff were attentive and professional . The wine list was also good without being overpriced. I would certainly recommend and return and thank the restaurant for a surprisingly truly lovely experience.

We ordered from specials board Pasta with scallops prawn s in a lemon sauce we were dissapointed with the meal,as 2 prawns in dish and 5 tiny scallops. to much pasta but at least this was fresh tasting. I would say it was not very flavoursome at al,l a hint of lemon. It was over priced at £15.95 a dish. Wine we ordered. tasted cheap not great. So we will not return to this restaurant .
Have visited twice now since our daughter has been at University in Canterbury. Food is absolutely fantastic, well presented and good quality. Service is attentive and friendly. Most recent visit was with family for Mothers Day and once again everything was superb.
We were very impressed with the quality of the food here and at such a bargain price. We couldn't work out why they weren't over run with customers! They should be! Highly recommend!
