Our meal here was a disaster! We had planned a second stop on this Pousada before we returned to Canada. We always consider the Pousadas as “unique special” ... and that has added to our disappointment. Our catastrophe began with the substitution of a sparkling wine (6Euros/Glass), with a Vinho verde (8 Euro/Glas), without consultation. Then the first course of goat cheese came in Filo and it was burned to a crack. As soon as the waiter got my eye, he came back to the table and took it away. Next came the main course...for me it was “Feder” lamb ... and it was served on sprinkled sweet potatoes and some maybe purifying spinach...but two “soft” supplements to the main actor was not a good gam...
This restaurant is a beautiful place, traditional yet modernized: great localities with beautiful surroundings and views. But don't be fooled: the food and the service is not good. We were there as a group, and had the group menu. And it was not good at all. The food was served almost cold, and the tuna steak that I had was dry. The dessert table was cleaned before we were finished, and when we asked them if they could leave it they refused as the kitchen was going to close (15 minutes before time . It seems like a place where the workers do not enjoy their job, maybe underpaid? All young (unpaid interns? , and gave poor service. The dinner was expensive we paid around 40 EUR per person for...
The Pousada de Palmela is a beautiful place to stay, and the restaurant is certainly acceptable. But for the money, you can better either in Palmela or Setubal. The convenience of staying at the hotel makes it certainly worthwhile, but if you are the world's best tasting fresh fish almost anywhere along the coast for less money than meals here, it is worth exploring. However, the 30-Euro package dinner made sure that it was good for us!
Stayed at the Pousada de Palmela, and ventured over to the steps away restaurant for a really lovely meal. It was a warm evening, and we were able to dine in the castle courtyard area. The restaurant owners were incredibly friendly and the food was fantastic. Some really nice options at great prices. Very much enjoyed their focus on local produce and recipes. 2 night stay recently. We were booked half board. The half board menu was very limited and not particularly inspiring, however eating form the a la carte menu you has a generous 30 euro (I think from memory) allowance which meant that it cost almost nothing. This menu was very pleasant and showcased local dishes.
We had a great meal here, with wonderful , polite and helpful service. The wine was highly recommended and appreciated, yet it was not pricey. The place was lovely, with widely spaced tables. The desserts might have been very good, but we did not try them.
The setting couldnt be nicer. This historic pousada is spotless, and the restaurant is up to our best expectations. Traditional and delicate food, nice desserts, good choice of wines, very friendly and traditional staff! Do not miss!
All of the Pousada's offer local cuisine and its worth trying. The meals are pretty large so be careful about filling up on bread or appetisers before hand. Service is good Reserviere jetzt einen Tisch
We were at the hotel and in the first night decided to taste it restaurant. Food was good and service was excellent and friendly. atmosphere as in old films.
