Rajni was recommended to us by a friend, and we decided to visit on a Tuesday when they offered a 4-course meal for £12 per person. Yes, you read that right... £12 per person! The restaurant was bustling with customers, creating a lively atmosphere. The decor was bright, with comfortable seating and minimal table decorations, which allowed for plenty of space for plates and dishes. Despite being busy, the service from the staff was exceptional. They made sure that our visit was everything we wanted it to be. The menu offered a variety of choices for each course, and the food exceeded our expectations. Food was OK, not amazingly OK, just OK. Staff were friendly enough, until we asked for some ventilation in the room. All was OK until food started being served on hot cast iron grill pans. They were creating thick , heavy smoke and made customers cough. At one stage the whole restaurant seemed to be coughing. However what made it worse was there was no ventilation whatso ever, not even a window. I asked for the door to be opened but they only opened a back door. This restaurant was not covid safe. We paid our bill and left, cutting a pleasant evening very short.
I have been into the restaurant and had takeaway from Rajni and I highly recommend either, the food is very nice all good portions and well priced. Breads and rices are also good. I like the bring your own drinks aspect as you dont find many places like that anymore making it fun to go with friends. The downstairs isn't massive but the food and service more than make up for it. After disappointing curry elsewhere it's a nice change to find a reliable place.
I ordered the "Big Joke- Rajni Special Mixed Shaslik" through the UBER Eats app. The description said it included Chicken tikka, lamb tikka, seekh kebab, tandoori king prawn prepared with special spices, onion, and capsicum, garnished with coriander, and served on a sizzling platter with green salad. Recently moved to the area and decided to book a table for myself wife and granddaughter, we were greeted warmly and showed to our table, as it was the first time our granddaughter had been to an Indian restaurant the waiter was very patient in explaining the menu to her, the meals were excellent and very good value, it is certainly a place we will visit again and with the added bonus of being able to take your own alcoholic drinks
Have tended to go to BOBs (bay of Bengal) but found the staff have been increasingly unwelcome so gave Rajni a spin. Better in every way! The staff greeted us with warm smiles and were glad of our custom. Food was excellent, beautifully served and we weren’t waiting ages for it to arrive unlike BOBs. Will definitely return, number 1 in Borrowash in my opinion!
I just tried my first takeaway from Rajni and I was completely impressed. The flavors were intense and delicious. The King Prawn Tawa was a little spicy but packed with flavor. The Chicken Tikka Methi exceeded my expectations with its complexity of flavors. The sauces were rich and the Saag Paneer was top-notch. I will definitely be returning.
The food at the Rajni is always absolutely wonderful, be it a takeaway or sit-in. It's beautifully presented and the service is fantastic. I'm so pleased we found this little gem as it has become my favourite Indian restaurant in Derby (maybe ever! , and yet the prices are really reasonable, portions generous and it's only around the corner. Ordered collection and was ready in under 30 minutes which was brilliant. The food was all piping hot and super tasty. Naan bread is okay but would prefer it to be more garlicky.
