I visited this restaurant while spending the day with family at Del Mar Beach, and unfortunately, it was my only lunch option within walking distance. I had high expectations for this restaurant. Situated on the base, it offers fantastic views and has a prime location with an enticing menu. However, I experienced some difficulty while ordering because I was hoping for a more traditional Mexican food selection. I didn't find many options featuring beans or rice. You do not often get a lot of dining options on base, and those that are there are usually franchises/chains where you can get the same thing anywhere else. It's nice to have something a little different than burgers and pizza, and baja cali food is perfect for the beach.They offer the typical baja cali/SoCal mexican food. Fish tacos, cali burritos, and carne asada (cali) fries. They were all pretty good and fair for the price. It's also nice to be able to enjoy a margarita right on the beach, the benefits of being on federal property.Overall it's a pretty solid place. The service was pretty fast. Can't be the ambiance since you're right on the beach.
The California burrito fell short of expectations and was of poor quality. It was served cold, with unheated tortillas, and lacked flavor. Despite the high price of $13.00, only a quarter of it was consumed before being discarded. The Carne asada bowl was also disappointing, as it was served with white rice and teriyaki sauce, which is not traditional for Southern California Mexican cuisine. Overall, the Mexican food at this establishment was subpar and did not meet the standards expected in this region.

So, I'm going to chalk this up to some teenager who doesn't know better. Outside by the condiments there are 3 different hot sauce green, red, and tapatios. These 3 should be placed in ice or at least the green and red. When I told the young lady. She told me the container lid was broken that's why there no ice for them. It's in a metal container what does that matter? You can put ice in it so bacteria will not grow. I think management needs to talk to your people about food hygiene.
I am only rating as a 3 due to the beautiful location. We were here on Sept 28th after 1:30pm. Ordered nachos which were in my opinion worse than movie theater nachos. My husband had Dave's burrito, the beef and chicken were dry and over cooked as if sitting around for a very long time. For goodness sake do better for the people you are serving who are serving you!
I've been twice in a year and both times they were out of numerous alcoholic drinks that are advertised; that is disappointing. Thereafter, the food is adequate. Meh. I'd eat elsewhere. Had the Arizona burrito and it was small. Also, they removed the umbrellas which makes it unpleasant to eat at their outdoor tables.
This place sucks....... The cashier was a brat. I paid 17 dollars for a Cali burrito and drink and I got my food before I can even get my sauces because they gave me old meat that was just sitting there. My burrito was so cold the cheese wasn't even melted .

They filleddd my burrito with cheese! And it was cold! Used to be such a good place but it's not anymore. Not worth 15 bucks!!!
It's a great casual spot for food and drinks! I just wish they had an awning for those sunny days.
