This restaurant has undergone several ownership changes recently, but the current owners are doing a fantastic job. The menu features Eastern European cuisine with popular dishes like burgers and schnitzel. Despite the simple options, the burgers are exceptional and the chevaps are delicious (though a vegetable component would be a nice addition). Be prepared to ask about the daily selection since there is no menu posted, but rest assured that everything is freshly prepared, so a short wait is to be expected. After all, even McDonald's no longer serves instant food.
I have enjoyed a couple of visits to Red Pillar in the past month. On both occasions I was impressed with the range of tasty offerings and very good coffee. Located in an industrial area, this large café is very busy at lunch times. However, Red Pillar is well serviced with efficient staff, headed up by the delightful owner, Kath. Vegetarian offerings include a tasty felafel wrap. Very good quality mince tarts from a French bakery were enjoyed pre Christmas.
One of the few places in the area where you can sit down and have lunch, an excellent coffee or even a glass of wine. Based on Governor Road and in an Industrial hub. The food is hearty, staff extremely helpful. Freshly made and seasonal choices available. Family owned and operated. We buy lunch here and the staff are welcoming and efficient. Always try and go outside regular busy periods to avoid queuing.
I have been visiting this restaurant regularly for years, and each visit is always enjoyable. It may not be a place focused on creating visually appealing dishes for Instagram, but it prides itself on serving freshly made, well-cooked food for the local industrial area. I have only tried the takeaway coffee and friand from this place, but they were both delicious. The service is quick and friendly. I highly recommend it for a delicious takeaway coffee.
Really nice focaccias.. the smoked salmon one is really yummy as well as any of the main meals of the day. Staff really friendly and helpful. Highly recommend.
Of all the brunch places I've tried to date in Melbourne, pillar of salt is on my top favourite list in first place.
