We took advantage of this refuge for one of our stages of the needle tower. The setting is beautiful, the terrace of the refuge is very pleasant. We advise you to go for a ride to Lake Pormenaz after depositing the hiking bag. The service team is made up of young people (very young seasoners (sumably very nice summerjob and eager to provide the maximum. Thanks to them. For the rest fortunately that the refuge was not complete because we had a confirmed reservation for 5, to discover that only 3 places were reserved for us. In view of the various opinions I could read on this shelter, I expected the worst. Yet I was pleasantly surprised. The welcome is warm and the dormitories clean. The location is exceptional. While there are a lot of people, the staff is doing the best to meet the needs of the customers, with the means they have. Certainly, food is not excellent but let us not forget that we are in a shelter, not in a restaurant. The fondue is good, no more, but far from bad. Objectively, I would rather have put 4/5, but in view of the low note that I find deeply unfair, it seems important to me to try to raise it to encourage future hikers. This refuge put on a wonderful jazz evening on 21st June. Most of the diners were staying there but we walked up in the late afternoon, had hot wine and then the jazz started brilliant! Dinner followed after about an hour of jazz, followed by another session of music. When it was over we left in the dusk with torches and arrived back at our car after about two hours in complete darkness. A wonderful midsummer experience. The food was fine, much as you would expect in a refuge where deliveries are seldom but the whole place was so welcoming and a most memorable evening.
One night at 3 people on September 28, 2023. Nicely surprised by the warm welcome and impeccable cleanliness of the premises and dormitories. The location is superb. Meals are brief and the melted recipe should be improved as too liquid, but we are lovingly replaced by a more expensive one. We will return with pleasure to this refuge which we recommend. We have rarely seen a warm welcome as in this refuge even under the rain! Great atmosphere and people worried about the comfort of hikers. Very clean sanitary and very pleasant room to warm up Thank you very much and we will come there without hesitation! Girls
The reception team were very friendly and helpful indeed, and organised the table placements well. However the food was very unimaginative indeed and the bunk bed creaked and wobbled alarmingly. Incredible location and views though.
Bring your own dinner and breakfast. Enjoy their cold beer but forget the food. You'd think that the access road would enable them to bring in decent food but it is skimpy and miserly both portions and quality. Yuck.
