Simply stellar. Excellent bistro cooking at astoundingly low prices. We had the Pissaladier, Steak Frites and Chicken Cordon Bleu. All were very well prepared and very tasty. The steak was a skirt steak (for less than $20 for the plate, who would reasonably expect a filet or onglet? , but flavorful and enjoyable. The Chicken Cordon Bleu (around $20 was excellent, and not the least bit dried out, as the dish can sometimes be as the chef strives to melt the cheese (which was thoroughly melted in mine . It was accompanied by several spears of asparagus and a very generous serving of excellent mashed potatoes. Wine prices are quite modest. We had a very creditable Cotes du Rhone Blanc for around...
I was shocked that my avocado on toast was on a piece if stale whole wheat sandwich bread. And that it was only a piece of bread. It was not even toasted. I was told the toaster was broken Later it came back to me from the kitchen burnt on one side and still bread on the other. This was not even real avocado . Like as in fresh. This must have been a spread. My daughter's English muffin for her eggs Benedict was not toasted eiether. And the hashbrowns frozen and were frozen tasting and the oil from the waffle pan tasted off. This food was truly horrible. If your toaster is broken why is this on your menu? The cook? This was a Saturday morning.
The Rendez-vous Cafe is the closest thing to a real Parisian brasserie we have found in the area. Nice ambiance with tables on the terrace and in the warm dining room with its huge wall mural evoking Paris. We had the Riesling Chicken and the Steak Frites, both perfectly delicious, and the house wine. Service was friendly and efficient. We will definitely be back.
Flavor of the quiche Lorraine was great, but the crust was awful. Looked like it had been baked in a big pan, and had a soggy rubbery crust on the bottom of a rectangular portion of quiche. A small unpretentious place with good food. The ambience is a little bare and cheesy at the same time. The bread was hard and stale. But the dishes- mussels, the Daube and the apple crepe- were all delicious. The prices are also a little lower compared to other Bay Area restaurants. An easy place for a dinner on Solano
