Andlau is an exceptionally lovely town and Le Boeuf Rouge is a fittingly pretty restaurant. It was very welcoming and the staff kind and friendly. We were happy with our meals. Two of us started with the foie gras. It came with plenty of toasted brioche, and cubes of a wonderful gelée, which tasted of Christmas ham. Delicious. The other two had the smoked salmon plate. We expected the usual bright pink slivers of fish, but what arrived were two sizeable tranches that were cleared smoked in house. It was extremely flavoursome, a little salty and well smoked. It came with an excellent lemongrass crème, almost the consistency of chantilly. The mains were the choucroute garni (an enormous plate...
The only thing that is not average in the place is the price. Being in Alsace I ordered a choucroute. What a mistake! Even I could have done much better. The presentation was pity-full. The small plate hosted some kind of a tent with the choucroute buried inside and the sausages around. It tasted like it came out from the scan seconds ago. The famous desert, 'le cygne' is a 20,000 Kilo calories Chantilly cream dish that resembles a swan but adds a few pounds to your belly. I wont come back.
Went to this restaurant by chance to warm up after playing in the snow in the nearby Champ du Feu ski area. We were a bit late but they happy to have us. Warmed up by the fire and had excellent food, filet steak with bearnaise sauce and fish on sauerkraut. Very friendly staff, well catered for children and even a changing area near the washroom, which is still a bit of a rarity in those parts. Very reasonable prices.
First of all the restaurant offers a very tranquil ambience. The menu is surprisingly challenging, not only typical Alsatian dishes, which can be found in most of restaurants of the region. The service was very attentive and however the place is rather elegant, it's also kids friendly. The quality of the food was great. I can especially recommend the herring.
This is a well located, bright and airy restaurant in the center of Andlau. Service is efficient but limited English spoken, unfortunately for me. Regional specialties are available. Portions are generous and the prices are reasonable.
Sat in the courtyard with friends. Staff was great and setting was really nice in the old town. The 'Alsace salad' is 2 cold sausages and a pile of cheese - would not recommend for anyone seeking a a traditional salad...

This is a wonderful Alsatian treat. We had local food, beer, and wine. The food was very traditional. Service was excellent. The decor represents the local architecture.
Situated in the middle of a quiet village. Table available without prior reservation. Excellent service and an equally excellent selection of delicious food.
