Andlau is an exceptionally lovely town and Le Boeuf Rouge is a fittingly pretty restaurant. It was very welcoming and the staff kind and friendly. We were happy with our meals. Two of us started with the foie gras. It came with plenty of toasted brioche, and cubes of a wonderful gelée, which tasted of Christmas ham. Delicious. The other two had the smoked salmon plate. We expected the usual bright pink slivers of fish, but what arrived were two sizeable tranches that were cleared smoked in house. It was extremely flavoursome, a little salty and well smoked.
