My wife and I went to Gurten around 8pm looking for somewhere casual to eat and watch the sunset, and Gurtners was the only place open. It was much fancier than we were looking for but we decided to eat there anyways. The menu was very small (two preset five course options and a small a la carte menu) and at first there wasn’t anything on it really jumping out to us. We also couldn’t get a table on the edge of the balcony to watch the sunset without a reservation, so we debated leaving but decided to stay. Wir hatten ein absolut tolles Erlebnis im Restaurant Gurtners! Mimi war unsere Gastgeberin und sie hat einen tollen Job gemacht! Das Menü wurde auch in einer vegetarischen Variante angeboten, was für uns perfekt war. Da mein vegetarischer Hauptgang etwas größer war als der Fleischgang meines Mannes, war er bereits zur Hälfte mit meinem Gang fertig, aber Mimi beobachtete aufmerksam unseren Tisch und bot eine Beilage an, die sehr schnell kam, sodass wir beide gleichzeitig unseren Hauptgang beendeten Zeit. We stopped here to have a drink and maybe an appetizer. We ended up having a bottle of wine and dinner. The food was fantastic. The wine was a local Gurten product that was excellent and the view of Bern is beautiful. However, the best part of the experience and the reason we stayed for more than just a drink was the maitre d' Patrick. He made us feel special, important and a priority even though we dropped in without a reservation and were just looking for a snack and a drink. Patrick, thank you for such a lovely experience. We had lunch on the sunny terrace. We were seated quickly but it took a while for out waitress to appear with the menu. She was very friendly and good humoured and made up for the wait. We had a beer to accompany the set menu, which was 49CHF per person. We had a wonderfully fresh asparagus salad followed by the trout fillets, which were well cooked and finished with the Osterfladerli, an Easter tart. Our desserts arrived separately and I had finished mine by the time my husband's appeared. We finished the meal with peppermint tea, which was good quality but served in china beakers that were stylish but impossibly hot to hold. The meal came to around 113CHF. The restaurant is located on top of Gurten, and you are likely to visit Gurten in the first place which is definitely a good choice while you are in Bern. The restaurant Gurtners is a cozy place, and from there you get a nice view of the city of Bern. The food is delicious and the service is absolutely a thumbs up. The meal is maybe slightly more expensive than the average in Bern, but with the nice city view and the quality of food and service, I would not hesitate to recommend it.
Dogshit service. Below average food. Minuscule portion sizes. Overpriced compared to other establishments with similar dishes. We arrived at 18:15 and I'm sitting here at 20:35 with an empty glass, no food in front of me, and an empty stomach. This place has no concept of time. I would STRONGLY recommend that you take your business elsewhere. There are probably 6 parties here eating and it has been over 2 hours for our 4 course meal.
