Restaurant Hochkitzbuhel

We are regular visitors to Kitzbühel have given this restaurant the swerve in the past as it used to be rather functional municipal in feel, with a low reputation for food. That has all changed since being taken over by the Tomschy family....The food is generally good now, great salads, pastas, soups traditional main meal dishes. Only the kaiserschmarrn was poor. Service was also good. Despite it now being the happening place to be packed to the rafters service was speedy helpful we were greeted with accommodating warmth in spite of not having a reservation. My wife didn't ski and wasn't sure she wanted to spend the money on a ticket to see the view from the top. I convinced her with the offer for lunch. I'm always skeptical of on mountain resort restaurants as they have a captive audience....Well the ambiance is unbeatable, as is the view. What about the food? Excellent! Surprisingly excellent. My wife had noodle special with truffles and it was really good, with a generous amount of truffle. At around it was a good value. I had the Wiener Schnitzel and opted for the fries instead of the potato salad. The schnitzel was really good, thinly pounded, nicely breaded and crispy. The fries were the best cooked fries I've had in a long time. Not pale....

So after a couple of hours skiing stopped here for a much needed coffee ! Around and place was relatively empty with plenty of seating available. Interior was lovey and decking outside was great. Unfortunately the service wasn't. Initially I asked for a coffee...at the bar and was told to take a seat as it was table service........only minutes later nobody had come along. Eventually I stared at a waiter who got the message ! Latte was good when I got it !!! Found out later the same thing had happened to my husband and he walked out ! Bit of a shame to be honest hence the AVERAGE review.

Nice place with music and good food. We went twice this week. The first time the service was great. Today , unfortunately the welcome was very bad and dorry to say the blond waiter was limit rude with our group. Despite having made a booking...he insisted to seat us inside. Finally after much negotiation, another waiter gave us a table in the lounge area and all was good from there. Hence , depends on which waiter is attending the table , it could make a huge difference.
