I've realised that there is no way of finding out the true quality of establishments now as a Michelin label does not mean anything, except you're likely to pay a lot of money! I'm finding that the standard of this restaurant label has plummeted in France and it's a shame. Details? First I'm an award-winning chef with 15 years of experience and a lifetime dedicated to nutrition and the arts of the table so I am not easy to please. But I found the bread bland and boring, the starter bland and boring and the main course forgettable; and the dessert, I asked to take away and binned it. Nothing was exciting. No contrasts. Very little cooking skill. Almost zero fresh vegetables. Local produce yes...
This was quite a strange experience, as we were the only couple in the entire restaurant! However, it was a great experience too. We started with a tomato and goats cheese dish that while not looking great, was absolutely delicious with real depth and range of flavours in each mouthful. We followed with fillet of beef and sea bream, again both really delicious. And a fantastic eclair to finish with. Our waiter was very kind, and with his limited English and our limited French, we got on fine! This restaurant deserves to succeed, so please do go.
Billed as the best restaurant in Prades, with a lobster starter to die for, I was disappointed to find they have difficulty getting lobster in the summer.... They let my husband swop his starter from one menu to another, but omitted to say that would mean he would be then paying a la carte rather than menu price. Otherwise good service and nice enough food.
Brilliant value! Only €24 each for the three course menu all four of us really enjoyed a fishy starter with a shellfish sauce, nicely cooked duck with a very rich reduction and a refreshing peach concoction to finish. With a bottle of Mourvèdre and coffees, our total bill for four was only €123, remarkably cheap given the Michelin accolade.
