Try to get a table outside so booking is recommended. We went to Beaujeu on a Wednesday, there is a small market on till 12pm with an amazing grocer who sells the best cherries we’ve had in a while. We had made a booking for 1pm on the terrace, the restaurant was full when we arrived therefore really glad we booked. Great menu with lots of local dishes and wine on offer. I had the Charolais steak, regional dish, it was delicious, in fact all the dishes we had were very good. Visiting the Beaujolais vineyards we accidentally found this cozy terrace downtown Beaujeu. Located only some meters from the church and market place, we took the 4 course menu for only 26, Euro. As well as the Pâte de Maison as the Quenelle and Araignée de Veau were of great quality and extremely tasty. The cheese platter was unlimited and the Beaujolais Village (Pichet) a pleasure. Located only 50 km from Lyon, we will come again to this hidden gem. French « à là campagne « at its best!

While following the Route des Vins in Beaujolais, we stumbled across Le Retinton in central Beaujeau. The restaurant was fully booked, but the owner made a table for us and treated us well. Of particular note was the local version of quenelles. And not surprising, good local wines at good prices.
