We were only in town for a few nights and had a disastrous meal the first evening at a tourist trap, so I was especially cautious about my final dinner in Quebec City. I had made the reservation at Le Saint-Amour a month in advance and am glad I kept it despite a few negative reviews on Trip Advisor. Please remember, everyone has an opinion, but not everyone is a seasoned traveller or connoisseur of fine dining. We went to this classy restaurant for lunch by chance- thanks to my wife. It is very conveniently located in a beautiful building and the decor and setting are beautiful too. I have never seen more gracious staff who not only agreed to serve us even though they had just closed for lunch but also didn't mind when we picked items randomly from the menu not really following a three course meal. And the food - it was unbelievable- looked awesome and tasted even better. You know these guys have got it right when your 11 year old kid and 76 year old father are equally delighted after lunch!! It was our last night in Quebec City and we decided to splurge. We got the cheese plate, the mushroom appetizer and my husband got the filet. We added the small foie gras to the entre. It was a kind of long wait between the delivery of the cheese and the rest of the meal, despite the fact that the room was not full. So, there's that. Then, however, came the reward. The mushroom appetizer was spectacular. There was a little dip that came with it that was great. I might have to buy the cookbook and translate it so that I can make this dish. We were warmly greeted, first by the hostess and then the maitre'd. Escorted to our table in a beautiful, airy space. Thus began a memorable and unhurried dining experience, ideal for foodies, but not for those closely watching their meal budget. The CN$70 "Inspiration" menu opened with a delicious potato-based soup, moved to an appetizer of arctic char, then the main course (thinly sliced duck breast), completed with a dessert of almond cake. All presented beautifully and with care to detail. As each course was presented, ingredients and preparations were explained. This is not something you do every day, but if you choose to have a memorable meal, do come to the Saint-Amour.
A very wonderful Friday evening dinner experience with fabulous food and adult beverages served in a wonderful and inviting room. The roasted duck and sauce was perfect and the wine suggestion by the staff was a great pairing. Speaking of staff, there seemed to be a small attentive army to serve all courses and keep the wine and water glasses filled during the evening. It felt that you have the table for the evening with no one pushing for the turn; however, don't be in a rush due to the kitchen taking time to craft each presentation. An overall pleasant and special occasion at a price of around 120.00 per person Canadian.
Dined here on our Anniversary while visiting Quebec City. Outstanding!! Impressive reception when arriving by cab, escourted to our table which was ready, and wait staff, expecially our waiter Max, were all about what fine dining should be. I had the Magdalene Sea Scallops and Pork Belly (excellent!) and my wife had the Seared Lamb Chops (the best she ever had!). The wine selection was extensive, expecially the French Wines.
