Classy downtown restaurant for a nice fine dining experience. The seafood stew was good but was sobered by the small portion size (one scallop one piece of fish a couple of shrimp). Fortunately, the meat dishes saved the show. The Prime Rib was delicious and cooked to perfection. Also, the burger was top notch with quality meat and packed with flavor. There is a seasonal menu, so I might have to go back for other items, but I will not be going the seafood route here again.
We were in this area for a funeral, and we decided to try this restaurant. It was a super experience from the delightful, personable hostess to the busboy to our waiter, Misael to the food that was amazing in taste and beautifully presented. It was then that we decided to have our Mercy Meal there. They surpassed all expectations. If you are looking for something spectacular, this is the place to go.
Ris stands at the top of restaurants in DC where the chef is really present and works the restaurant. Mustard salmon to die for with beautiful pomegranate accents and the spinach and feta salad with great dressing flavors, followed by ice cream and cookies. Skip the pretentious chef upscale restaurants and come for the food be it the salmon, snapper or things to ponder. Highly recommended.
Ris is a welcome change for fine dining in the Nation’s Capital. Excellent fresh food and customer service. While DC has experienced a restaurant boom it’s wonderful to have a place with a great variety of simply prepared fresh food without unnecessary sauces and frills that add nothing to the taste. What a great restaurant. We were with a group of Red Cross Volunteers on the Following the Footsteps of Clara Barton tour. Our food and service was outstanding. I had the Olive Oil Soup, Braised Beef Spareribs, and warm strawberry Rhubarb Crostata. Everything was perfect and delicious. I understand that the owner is a reward winning woman chef.
This is for business professional dinner or corporate events. This restaurant is not for foodies. The menu is rather basic and the food is very lackluster. I wouldn't recommend this place for anything other than a corporate event where food isn't the most important thing. They have bigger private spaces and really good service.
I hosted a business lunch at Ris last week. It was the first time I’ve been back to the restaurant for several years. I had the best quiche I’ve ever had in my life — it was truly EXTRAORDINARY! The noise level was low and ideal for a business meeting/lunch.

It was a successful evening from the warm welcome to the very courteous service from the extremely friendly staff. The menu and daily specials offered a large selection. Our chosen dishes (salmon tartare and meat loaf) were delicious.
