Today, just before lunch, we typically enjoy a hot sandwich, an omelette, or a roasted brunch meal around this time. However, I felt like having something different today, so I opted for a brunch with tea and an Americano, and decided on an English breakfast. I considered going for the full English, but that might have been a bit too ambitious. The food was excellent, and the table service was also commendable. After finishing our meals and having a second round of drinks, we noticed that the sauces were in bags as a precautionary measure due to Covid, and the hot drinks came with a small biscuit on the side—a nice touch while we waited for our order. Robbie is truly a wonderful local asset....
As a tall man with a hearty appetite, I was eager to try the food. We ordered battered sausages along with regular chips and a kids' meal. The portion sizes were impressive, and I found the battered sausages to be quite tasty, although they were smaller than I’m used to. The kids' meal was also substantial and well-prepared. However, it came with a lollipop instead of the toy mentioned on the menu. Overall, the food was very good—some of the best chips I’ve had. The only downside was the long wait to receive our order. One word of advice: don’t make the mistake I did by sitting in the café at the front, as it isn’t connected to the chippy, and the staff there aren’t fond of it.
In July 2021, I discovered that Robbie’s Plaice, though not widely advertised, offers gluten-free meals every day, in addition to their gluten-free fish and chips on Mondays and Tuesdays. If you eat-in they serve the chips in a mini replica frying basket (wrong) and there is no vinegar on the table just a wedge of lemon on your plate (wrong). Ketchup is in sachets instead of a sqeezy bottle (wrong). On the positive, the food is tasty and the service is fast. As importantly, the business name has a pun in it which is essential for a chippy: this plaice used to be called The Fat Friar with an image of a monk. Wow! The food is incredibly fresh and delicious! We sat outside and had a wonderful dining experience. The staff seemed busy, which shows they work really hard—especially in this heat! Everything was spotless and clean. The portion sizes were just right; I even had some leftovers to enjoy later, which I couldn't bear to waste! I drove over 30 minutes to get here based on previous reviews, and it was definitely worth it. I would gladly do it again!
I recently ordered takeout for lunch and was pleased with my experience. The food was delicious and earned a solid 4 out of 5. The service was efficient and friendly, also rating a 4 out of 5. Although I didn't dine in, the overall atmosphere of the restaurant seemed inviting and vibrant, which I would also rate at 4 out of 5. Overall, a satisfying lunch takeout experience!
