Wow! We happened upon this gem after visiting the Parksville street fair and are glad we did! Great selection of local beer and the friendliest staff! We were intrigued by the Yorkshire Sliders... small Yorkshire pudding cups filled with the most amazing beef & gravy. A few nights later, at the suggestion of our fun waitress, we returned for a late dinner & live music. So glad we did! Their special was an unbelievably good steak sandwich, which we paired with a great berry cobbler. Their specialty drinks are incentive and delicious, so we had a few and listened to a fantastic local band, Baby Jane. Great night... we will always dine here when we come to Vancouver Island!!
If you are looking for decent pub fare, whether that be fish and chips, a roast beef plate with a huge pop-over, or the like, you won't go wrong with The Rod and Gun. Service is pleasant and prompt and the food, while not spectacular, is still very good. Prices are average. The last time we went here it was after dropping in to Smitty's and discovering a huge line up.... so here is a TIP: If you want to get away from the bigger line ups Rod and Gun is a great alternative because though it is usually steady it is not as crazy busy as a chain restaurant on the Old Island Hwy. AND, the bonus is, their food is as good or better than the chains.
We went to this historic place based on reviews and were not disappointed. The parking was limited but we did find a spot in the back parking lot. We started to go into what we thought was the entrance but were advised that was the bar and the restaurant door was on the other side of the lot so we went over to that side. It's a casual place with seating in booths and 3 TV screens playing different sports events.The menu offered a nice variety and they also have daily specials. I had the fish and chips and it was very good. There were a lot of things on the menu that sounded appealing to me and I'd like to try it again.
We had read up on this pub before our trip and decided we had to go. Perhaps we missed the historical pieces talked about. It seemed like any other pub for the most part. There were a couple of old photos and an old safe but that was about it. The food was good and the service was also good. It was more of a sports bar which I didn't mind but not what we thought we were going to see/experience. The music was a bit loud for my liking. Reserviere jetzt einen Tisch
We tried the Rod & Gun after enjoying the Royal Canadian Legion Br 49’s wonderful hospitality. The RCL 49 closes at 6:00 pm on Monday so we planned to visit the Rod & Gun for dinner. We both tried the Monday special-1 piece of Cod and Chips/Coleslaw for $9.95. The service was fast and efficient and the food was excellent-especially at the Monday night special price! The washroom (men’s) was very clean!
We were looking for live music and ended up at this local pub in town. The food was amazing. The staff was really friendly (and tall!). There was a mix of different age groups. Everyone seemed to be having a good time. There wasn't a band the night we went, just a DJ.
I visited this restaurant/pub on an overnighter in Parksville, BC I was so impressed by the quality service, ambiance and delicious food and drinks this establishment offers. Our server was absolutely exceptional!! I would highly recommend the Rod & Gun!!
Stopped here for dinner and a beer. Service a bit slow and it was noisy even though less than half the tables were occupied. Meals were good and reasonably priced. A historic place with an old Canadian pub ambiance. Reserviere jetzt einen Tisch
We have eaten here s few times and the food is always excellent. Great portion sizes, decent prices and great service. Worth the visit.
