My husband and I were on a two-day hiking tour with his hiking club and stayed the night at the Rotsteinpass mountain inn. The location on a rocky top ridge certainly couldn't be any more spectacular with a panoramic 360° view around the eastern Alps. While Rotsteinpass itself is an amazing place to visit and I would like to go back there again and again, never again the resthouse. The staff was most unfriendly. One has to pay 5 Francs for a shower. And must buy dinner (pricey for a small plate of soup and cheese pasta with Apfelmus.) Otherwise there are notices in toilet that one has to pay to use the loo if one doesn't buy dinner. Water in the basin trickles like a single tear. We were refused refill for our water bottles and we were told that since we were hiking up to Santis which is only an hour's hike away, we can manage without water. Our whole group of 5 literally left with less than 100 ml water each. And apparently this rudeness...

Most unfriendly people in the world I ever meet so far, they have no manner how to treat people with respect. Be careful if you travel to that area! Drying room not working at all, Breakfast was poor, Drinks expensive like hell, No bin disposal so this mean if you are with your baby there you must bring your dippers back to the valley. The rooms were cold during night time. Water was like tear drops coming from the sink. Around 5 € extra for making a shower which lasted only 1.5 min with warm water. No house rules are given during booking but once you arrive there you feel like you are in prison with rules that only they understand. More or less it was the worst experience for me and my 10 f...

Da es sich um eine Berghütte handelt, haben wir nicht viel Komfort erwartet. Die Einrichtungen sind sauber. Wir waren in einem Schlafsaal, aber zum Glück mussten wir das Zimmer nicht mit anderen Wanderern teilen. Offensichtlich versuchen sie, jedem Paar oder jeder Gruppe ein separates Zimmer zuzuweisen. Das Zimmer hatte ungefähr 10 Plätze, sehr klein ohne Stauraum. Das gesamte Zimmer hatte nur eine kleine Lampe. Das Leitungswasser lief sehr langsam, was wir verstehen. Die gemütliche Dusche kostet 5 Franken und ist gut für etwa 3 Minuten. Es gab 2 Optionen zum Abendessen. Ich wählte Schweinebraten mit Rahmsauce und Pommes. Es war mir zu salzig. As this is an high mountain hut. We didn't expect much of comfort. The facilities are clean. We stayed in a dorm style room but fortunately we didn't have to share the room with other hikers. Apparently, whenever possible, they try to assign a different room to each group or couple. The room had around 10 spots, very small without any storage. The entire room has one small bulb only. Tap water run very slow which we understand why. Coined shower is 5 Sfr,. good for around 3 mins. There were 2 choices for dinner. I chose roasted pork with cream sauce and French fries. Tolle Erfahrung, wunderbare Lage und gutes Essen. Würde 5 Sterne geben, aber fühlte mich beim Trinken von Wasser übers Ohr gehauen – 13 £ für einen Liter Trinkwasser. Leitungswasser war nicht trinkbar und es gab nirgendwo anders, wo man seine Flasche auffüllen konnte. Alle Wanderer MUSSTEN nach einem langen Wandertag und einem weiteren langen Tag vor dem nächsten Tag dieses Geld bezahlen. Sehr schade, da meine Erfahrung wirklich ruiniert wurde.
We were on a multi day hike and stayed overnight before going up Saentis mountain. The owners were looking well after us with a personal touch. Be prepared at 2'100 above sea level the amenities are reduce (where everything has to be transported up by helicopter.) Water scarce at some times.
