My wife and I came here for lunch the weekend just passed. We had Eurostar loyalty points to spend, I hadn’t been to Lille so thought why don’t we go for lunch – because, well why not. So then we needed someone perfect for lunch! We spent a lot of time researching, forums, TA reviews etc. and decided to go with Rouge Barre – it had good reviews, the restaurant looked comfortable and not too formal, and whilst there was no menu on line, pictures on TA looked good and the chef was on Top Chef, so we took a leap of faith – and wow are we glad we did. What an incredible restaurant. The restaurant itself feels like it’s in a slightly more secluded, but perhaps more trendy / hipster part of Lille...
Rouge Barre is situated a kilometre from Lille Grand Place. It is a walk through cobbled streets. So on with your flat shoes, and off you go! This classy restaurant lies behind a banal facade. Do not be deceived! Just walk right in and be ready for an innovative gastronomic experience. There is a lunchtime set menu but the vegetarian member of our party was wonderfully catered for within the set menu price. Another member described her food intolerances which were also addressed with great understanding and skill. We went to this restaurant after a look through TripAdvisor reviews. First time in Lille, and we got lucky, very lucky!If you are looking for genuine French cuisine, obviously with a bias towards this geographical area, you won't be disappointed. Two "no charge" extras during the meal, everything well cooked and presented, with excellent service. Our main server was fantastic, with just the right level of familiarity.Timing was ideal, each dish explained upon serving, as a sauce or other accompaniment was delivered by additional serving staff. Family of 5 with three young adults who can be fussy so was a bit worried about options but all really enjoyed. One doesn't like fish but they cooked her some alternatives. Told we were upstairs and thought it might lack atmosphere but it's just as nice. Difficult to describe in detail and do justice but very flavoursome and 3 course lunch at 30 euros was good value. Friendly staff happy to describe each dish. Well known chef in charge and spotted him downstairs so nice to know he had cooked for us. Happy to recommend....
We have been there to celebrate our wedding anniversary. During the booking, I mentioned about it and they made a little suprise at the end which was very kind. We have had the 6 plates menu which is a great discovery, full of flavors and very creative. We loved it. Service is very kind and there whenever you need. We highly recommend if you can afford it, even though I think the price is very adequate to the quality.
The chef was actually of the French version of Top Chef. We had a great experience for a very reasonable price (150 euros for 2). The place is nicely decorated, not too large with enough space between the table. The food was innovative, very good quality from starter to dessert. Service is friendly and efficient. Reservation is strongly recommended. Parking was super easy (but it was on Bastille day).

Travelled from Sweden and here for the second time. It is just a great place for taste of food and wine. All combined with perfect and personal service. Love this place. Visit if you can get a reservation.
