The ambience is beautiful and the staff is attentive. Special kudos to Ryan, who immediately without reservations me and my older father. Ordering a number of items, including the Steak Frites (ordered medium rare and was as hard as rubber) and especially the French onion soup . If you are looking for authentic French cuisine, you will not find them here. Somehow I’ve managed to never visit Roux before- I realized tonight that’s been a tremendous loss.Briefly- this place is excellent on all fronts and certainly worth a visit!Service was efficient, kind, and very helpful- I really like when the staff can provide their own personal recommendations. Please note that the five-year rule is in force here, as I have reviewed this restaurant more than five years ago. And like five years ago, Roux remains one of our Rochester favorites. We go once or twice a year and whether it is apps and drinks, lunch or dinner is always a good meal. Recently we were four for dinner and I had the Roux Burger (a whole time fave) with Good Fries. Absolutely the worst service ever! Do not recommend. We are visiting from California during the worst storm ever in Rochester. I begged my husband to venture out because I made a reservation at the restaurant where we had our first date. I made it for 4:00 to ensure we had our special table. We arrived at 4 and there were 2 people at the bar but no one in the restaurant. I asked to be seated at our table and was told she Could not seat is there she would get fired I asked for the other side and she said it was reserved. I decided to take my fiancé to ROUX for his birthday this year, and it was our first visit. Everything was absolutely fantastic! The staff was incredibly friendly, and our food arrived quickly. We ordered the cheese plate, lamb ragout, French onion soup, a special salad, delicious fries with aioli, and the pumpkin crème brûlée, and it was all amazing! Each dish was flavorful, and we have no complaints about our meal. Even with all that food, we were in and out in just over an hour. My fiancé really enjoyed his cocktail as well! I recently celebrated a birthday dinner at this restaurant and had a great experience. The menu offered a wide variety of options that catered to everyone's tastes, and the food was beautifully prepared and presented. If you're thinking of ordering wine, the half carafe is a fantastic deal at $12, which is the same price as two glasses but provides more wine. I would definitely love to return for brunch in the future. I also noticed a mention of parking in another review—there's a free parking lot just two blocks down on the same side of the street, located behind a small strip of shops.
Wanted a special place to enjoy a meal at a girl weekend in Rochester. This place is really delivered. The drinks are amazing and well designed! My Fave was French. This was our first attempt to escargot and it was really delicious. A fresh mixture of garlic and herbal butter and delicate escargot. I enjoyed the trout that had a super crispy skin, potatoes perfectly boiled and a really delicious horseradish sauce. We enjoyed the monk fish Cassoulet was a delicious red sauce, sausages white beans and fish. The atmosphere is dark but welcoming. Reservations are a must.
The French bistro food here is fantastic. The atmosphere can feel a bit tight and noisy, which is typical for a place of this size with a French ambiance.
