My complaint is the owner is very rude. I advised him that his answering service and online says they are open on Mondays. I called prior to going on Tuesday to ensure they were open. I advised I was on the way but upon arrival I was told I didn't have a reservation. I stated but I just called you. He then said we could sit at the bar (which had very low and uncomfortable stools). He never apologized for the inconvenience of my coming there and finding then closed. Instead he made me the problem for bringing it to his attention. He stated he gets tons of calls daily and he cannot be answering them all day which still doesn't justify the hours being wrong on Google and the answering service....
The food was amazing and the atmosphere was fun and relaxed. The Ox Tail stew was served with collard greens that were cooked to perfection (no hot sauce needed). The stew was flavorful and filling. These seafood platter was the right portion if you want a lighter meal. The BBQ ribs were tender and juicy. There was enough to share but this person kept them all to himself. The fried catfish was seasoned well, tender and flaky. For the appetizer we had fried green tomatoes that were incredible, fried okra and crab balls. Finally, we were treated to live music. Ruby Lee's did not disappoint! Although we had to wait for our reservation because guests did not want to leave, our server Paula made us quite comfortable until we were seated. We started with cocktails and the fried green tomatoes. Both were excellent! For dinner I had the oxtail stew and hubby had the pork chops. The entrees were delectable! I appreciated the greens being prepared with smoked turkey. We saved our complimentary cornbread to enjoy with dinner! The live entertainment was amazing!! We will definitely patronize Ruby Lee's during our next visit!
We were in the area visiting from NC and wanted some good soul food so decided to give them a try. Glad we chose this place because it was literally a great choice. The hospitality, food, drinks (strong live band was exceptionally awesome. Everyone there was singing enjoying the their food and atmosphere. This was a nice place to visit while in Hilton Head. The people was really friendly, the food was good and the atmosphere was nice. The Friday night we went, they said they usually have a live band, unfortunately, we didn't have that experience. FYI...There is an entertainment charge on the nights they have live bands. Its stated on the menu. Overall, really enjoyed the food and atmosphere.
Had oxtail stew.. mom had shrimp and okra gumbo and pull pork... please please please don't pass Ruby Lee's by... atmosphere was definitely awesome.. came from Florida to eat
Absolutely a must eat on the island!! The food and atmosphere are soul fulfilling!! Make sure you have a napkin close by... you might drool!!
