Russ: cheap dinner trying to keep up with the fancy brunch crowd while the staff doesn't have the energy to care. Worst breakfast I've had n years! This is an example of staff that have been working in the industry too long and it shows. The server is exhausted, the cook doesn't care at all about quality and the owner is on autopilot while rushing you out the door. Bland French toast (no vanilla or nutmeg or milk, just bread and egg) the bacon was barely cooked and my daughters entire plate of food was covered in a thick layer of grease......disgusting. Great coffee though.
Russ' is always the cheap diner you can go to for simple meat and potato food. It's a restaurant of nostalgia, an old Auntie that is loved but only because you remember what she used to be like in her youth. Those who go there stay not for the food but for the company of other aging people and the semi retired waitresses that know there names.
We were so worried about this Russ’ location during the pandemic. We went through the drive-thru regularly and when it’s dining room was limited to 50%, we dined in every week in the hopes that this location would survive. We still eat here every 2 weeks and are always happy with the food, the staff, and the cleanliness of the restaurant.
I can't believe the waitress handed me this plate of onion rings!! No batter on them just burnt onions. I paid $20.00 for a sandwich and rings and the rings were not edible. It is my fault that I did not bring up this food quality issue but I would hope these onion things would have never been able to leave the kitchen.

Russ’ is an old-school restaurant. It feels like you walk into the 1970s. Great service. Fresh baked goods available for takeout. I find this restaurant charming, and the staff is super friendly. The food is good, but definitely on the greasy side. If you’ve never been to Russ’, you should check it out at least once!
We were in Grand Rapids from out of town. We came here on a friend's recommendation and decided to do takeout and come back to our hotel room. The service I received was outstanding. It's a very friendly atmosphere. The taco salad I had was very good. My husband had the meatloaf and enjoyed it.
Pleasant family-orientated diner with a great soup, sandwich, and dessert selection that includes seasonal specials. My Sourdough hamburger sandwich was delicious and packed with smoked gouda cheese. I followed up with a perfectly sized slice of cherry pie. Great prices and good food.
Walking into this place is like stepping through a portal back in time. It feels dated but in a nostalgic way. The food is good for the price. I wouldn't suggest you take a date here but it's suitable for family. Great seasonal desserts as well.

Hamburger had to much sauce on it, but otherwise delicious! Atmosphere dated, but there for food, not decor or lighting.
Great food, great service, great prices. I could not get enough of their applesauce.
