We went on a Thursday night, that was really not that busy which makes it odd that the service was not prompt or consistent. We started with some lovely cocktails (which really do look to be what they're good at) and then moved onto the food. The menu options are enticing and a refreshing change to the Aussie staples of Asian & European but the sharing plate style makes it both expensive and unsatisfying. The tastes and flavours were lovely and worth the visit but be prepared for slower service and unnecessarily loud music inside. Some great reworked tunes that feel like the Caribbean but too loud for food. (Note to owners - keep it down earlier and then pop it up for the bar scene) In sayin...
I went to the Saint Lucia on a quiet Sunday afternoon with friends, who are regulars. I was most impressed - it is my kind of restaurant. It has a funky laid back vibe, casual yet intimate. The owners are a lovely husband and wife team of Charlie and Steph who make you feel like hanging out and having a drink, as many people were doing. But we came to eat, and we were not disappointed. My friend had the Louisiana fried chicken, a menu staple, while I had the braised goat, one of the seasonal additions. Both were excellent. We added a couple of Jamaican Red Strip beers and a great local Shiraz by the glass for a first-rate meal. I highly recommend it.
We were surrounded by over full trendy Japanese restaurants when we arrived in Chapel St to eat. We were told we would be waiting for at least an hour when we stumbled across this little gem, which had several tables available (often a bad omen). Well, we were thrilled, the service was casual and attentive, the food - GREAT! The kingfish Cervice was delightful, the jerked chicken very tasty. The pulled beef brisket was very good, and it all went down very well with a bottle of B...rd Son APA craft beer from Fitzroy. We had a great night, good honest food in a lovely atmosphere.
Wow that fried chicken cone! Had seen it on instagram and thought it looked fun & interesting. It's fried chicken inside with 'jerk' BBQ sauce & slaw with charred corn - had never tried jerk sauce before it's good! (very punchy!). The serves were generous & good value. Went here with my wife and a friend of ours. The seating arrangements were a little strange. We were sat on a table facing directly into the wall to begin with. We asked to move and then were seated in a more central and specious table. They have a good range of tequila from the Caribbean and good spirits. The food was good and was all designed to share.
I enjoyed an evening here with a group of 10 friends for a birthday. Very pleasant authentic Caribbean food. Lots of spices. Terrific brisket. We had a set menu. A little slow coming out. Service was very friendly if not a little slow. It was a while between drinks. I'd definitely return.
It's everything Windsor can offer , eclectic and fun. I recommend the chorizo and goat cheese cigars and the local Victorian mussels with herb chilli butter. So delicious. Charlie and Steph are fabulous hosts.
