To be fair, the ramen I would give 3.5 to 4 stars, and really no msg I think. Tasted fairly good, but not one that can’t find elsewhere. HOWEVER, like many other reviews, the owner really doesn’t know any manners. I know he has a small shop. He told us he doesn’t welcome too many people coming even if my friends were willing to sit in a different table (the place was empty from when we walked in till when we left). Told us how he can’t have “parties” come sit here forever (well, we were sort of in a rush). He won’t listen and told us he can’t cook for so many people at once (although he made our food: 4 ramen and dumplings within 5 to 10 mins, then watched tv the rest of the time we were the...
The food was good. However, the interaction was uncomfortable. I went with my family, including my grandmother who is in her 90s and does not eat a lot, and we were told that “this is serious food, not a cheap date.” We wanted to share meals as we were not very hungry but originally planned to get some beers and ice cream. I ordered our meals and was told each person had to order a meal if we wanted to sit at the table since he has to make a profit. I was so stunned that we ordered food to go as that was acceptable to him. As good as the food was, we should have left. I have never written a review before but this place merits it. This is a real hole in the wall with very few tables and just one man running the show. The menu claims everything is homemade and I don't doubt it it really feels like you are getting a home cooked meal prepared by someone's grandpa. If you want a good meal, and aren't too concerned about customer service (although I personally found the cook to be friendly) or the physical appearance of the place, eat here. The food will not disappoint you.
No fancy interior, no background music. But it has an experienced and opinionated Japanese chef and offers hot Japanese dishes made only on order. Curry rice is not like ordinary curry. The curry is dark brown in colour and tastes authentic which reminds me of my dining experience in a curry speciality treetop restaurant in Hokkaido. Giff don (deep fried chicken rice) is well made. went w/ friends we only order 2 lamern and the owner gave us 3 lamern .owner said everyone needs to order my friend said he is full so the owner told him he needs to get out and just wait us in the car we found it very rude so we decided to leave the owner pulled my shirt and lock the door he said my restaurant my rule it was very scary! i never experience like that before to think all the japanese i encountered are all polite and kind! never again!!
Found a diamond. Don’t judge this restaurant by its appearance. And don’t go here if you are a snob or don’t know what quality food tastes like. The owner, puts everything he has into his authentic Japanese dishes. Its all about the food here. Every ingredient is authentic Japanese and the dishes are made with care. A place to get a tase of authentic Japanese food. I live in Chicago and will be back every chance Im in town.
Absolutely fantastic! Our meal was so delicious and fresh. Everything made in house. Do not miss the Gyoza! The curry was some of the best I've ever had.The owner/chef is delightful to talk with as well he'll tell you some stories if you're interested.Don't come in a hurry plan on spending some quality time for your meal as it is all prepared fresh by the chef upon your order.The restaurant is small with limited seating...
Owner is not rude. Owner is passionate about his food. If you want real authentic Japanese food, you will enjoy this.Only thing the owner ask for is that each person order 1 item. A single chef cooks all the dishes. Quality of food is great, service was good. Due to one chef wait times can be a bit longer, I do recommend to try this restaurant and support local.
