However the blend fusion Japanese and Thai takes more to master.Papaya salad minus the traditional shrimp but with duck confit, had to look hard for it. Fish sauce overkill and not much else.Karrage chicken was bone in large and fried til bones turned black. The batter is light enough but THAT’S not karrage. We dined at this restaurant on a rainy Sunday, and it was an incredible experience. We ordered Darjeeling tea, shallot fried rice, and ramen noodles, and everything was delicious. The shallot fried rice, in particular, stood out for its crispy texture and rich aroma. If you’re new to Japanese cuisine, this place is a must-visit. The restaurant's ambiance is charming, with delightful little decor pieces throughout. Additionally, the staff was polite and welcoming, which enhanced our experience. We left feeling very satisfied with both the quality and quantity of the food.
My fiancé and I had the best dining experience we've had in a long time. The service was incredible, the food was beautifully presented, and it was all absolutely delicious. I highly recommend trying the tea list, mocktails, and ramen. There’s something for everyone on the menu, and the staff really enhanced our lovely experience. This place has become a new favorite for us.
Shinsen is one of my favorite evanston restaurants! Been here on multiple occassions and have never experienced a bad meal. The service is fantastic and attentive and the ambiance is lovely. If you’re looking to try it out: go for the jasmine tea, papaya salad, pork belly and chicken skewers and the pad see eiw.

Absolutely lovely meal. Prompt, friendly service. Highlights were the papaya salad, calamari, and pork belly robata. Never have had calamari as unique and delicious! The Thai crème brûlée with lychee ice cream was also delicious. Excited to come back.
Cozy environment, great food and good service. The Black Widow specialty roll was tasty and nice spin with the black ink rice. Everything looks just as good as it tastes. Definately recommend this place.
Excellent food right from the garden fresh salad, to the shrimp tempura appetizer to the Ramen. Really hit the spot while we were in town attending the ASCO conference. Will definitely be back!
I had a wonderful dinner at Shinsen! The atmosphere inside was lovely, and the fried rice was incredible! We will definitely return soon.

The fried rice was excellent, gyoza, and sushi and sashimi all good. The place could do with a good cleaning though!
I finally tried this place last Friday and I was amazed by how good all the food is! Definitely going back!
