I have been to this restaurant a few times. The food never disappoint me. What does though, however, is the service (or lack there of). I remember when I first started coming here, it had just opened not long ago, so it was only a little busy at times. But now as the restaurant gains more popularity and more customers, the staff that works here display less and less hospitality. I often find myself waiting for almost half an hour for my entrees to come. And when the food comes, it's more often than not just smacked onto the table, where the waiter doesn't make eye contact, no smiles, no notice of what it is that he's brought us. This local family friendly restaurant is perfect for weekday dinners, as well as weekends of course!We went as a family of 6 on a Monday night and they were busy. The one lady serving was rushed, but served us efficiently and was friendly. The food came out quickly, and was fresh and tasty. There were many single Japanese men, and Japanese couples dining here, as well as family groups. None of the food was exceptional, but it was all tasty and fresh. We had sushi, maki rolls, tempura, belly pork, spring rolls.
Great little Japanese restaurant in the heart of Ashfield with free parking (up to 2 hours) in nearby shopping mall. Clean restaurant with open kitchen, somewhat understaffed; the chef delivers the meal to the table when it is crowded. Other than that, great food for a decent price, especially the dinner boxes for $12.50 with, among others, the following varieties: chicken katsu, pork katsu, and karaage chicken. A dinner box (see photo) comes with bowl of rice, Miso soup, fried fish, sushi, desert, and salad.
The dinner boxes were absolutely amazing. $12 for a large bento with heaps of variety. My cousins wife who is Japanese recommended this place due to the authenticity of food, and we were not disappointed. Very impressed with the food, although I was surprised that they don't do hand rolled sushi or just normal sushi with the nori on the outside! Anyways, a delicious meal and excellent value. We stopped by shinsen for lunch on Saturday at about 1pm. Bit scared, no customer and the Japanese place next door was full. Let's give it a go. The lunch menu was carried and cheap. We came away impressed. The beef bento box was well done, the sushi was tasty and fresh, dumpling were good. The decor was nicely subdued and I did like the background music.
Really authentic. Didn't give it 5 (would've given 4.5) only because service could be a bit warmer and amenities a little bit better (e.g paper towels in bathroom, soap dispenser could be hung on wall). Minor details, food faultless and we'll priced better than most fancy restaurants. Seating area clean and new really surprising in Ashfield.
I tried this restaurant today and was amazed by the choices and lunch specials. I had the bento box and was not disappointed at all. The service was great, all staff were polite and most of all the food was reasonably priced, freshly made and oishi!I will definitely come back as it is worth the trip!
The dinner bento boxes are the best value and top quality at $12.50. Lots of choices to personalise you box and ample food to satisfy the biggest appetite. 3 of us shared to bento boxes and couldn't finish them. Stopped in for dinner and really enjoyed it. Some twists I wasn't expecting on the menu. Service was fast and friendly. This place is very popular with new families. Lots of prams and kids. The food was very good and fresh. Will go back
