First off, they don’t serve brisket here. While that’s not a deal breaker for me, it is unusual for a place that advertises Memphis-style BBQ. Memphis is known for its brisket, after all. I ordered the ribs and chicken combo. The ribs fell right off the bone, without being pre-cut, and were slathered in sauce that was a bit too greasy for my taste—I had to dip them in the sauce, which was just Sweet Baby Ray's. The chicken was mostly dark meat and had more bones than I expected, making it a bit tricky to eat. The ribs are truly fall-off-the-bone tender, just as great ribs should be. Personally, I like to enhance the sauce with a bit of bourbon barrel-aged maple syrup, though it's not necessary. Remarkably, the other adults in my group don't even use the sauce, which says a lot about the quality! The black-eyed peas are spot on, while the baked beans are loaded with meat and pack a delightful flavor. We like to add a touch of honey butter to the cornbread, making it just right. The mac and cheese is simply divine—we often find ourselves fighting over it. I haven't quite figured out how many large sides to order so we can have leftovers for the next day.

After hitting the slopes at the Brattleboro ski hill, we stopped by for takeout. The ribs were absolutely amazing—so tender they practically fell off the bone—and came with delicious sauce on the side. We ordered two full racks, along with spicy green beans, coleslaw, macaroni, fries, onion rings, and cornbread. We also got an order of pulled pork since there were seven of us, and it was just as tasty. We highly recommend Smokin' J's BBQ!
Fantastic BBQ located right on Route 9! We live just around the corner and have placed four orders since they reopened. All the sides are delicious, but I highly recommend the spicy green beans. Our family’s favorite is definitely the full rack of ribs. Don’t let the unassuming storefront and quirky interior deter you. The food is exceptional, made fresh, and the staff are warm and welcoming.

Tried this place when they first opened in this new location. The smoked meats were nothing to write home about. The sides came from Aldi and weren't homemade and the stuff being sold in the store was Aldi products being sold at a markup. Can't speak if things have changed but for my money I'd rather drive to Top of the Hill where I know the food is good.
Absolutely deliriously good BBQ. We've known them from when they were in Wilmington, but the new digs are excellent. We had 2 whole slabs, a BBQ chicken, and pulled pork that we used for sandwiches well after our visit. Great from start to finish! So glad you are back!
We just enjoyed a rack of ribs accompanied by beans and mac and cheese. The sides were excellent, and the ribs were absolutely fantastic. They were incredibly tender, falling right off the bone, with no fat at all, and bursting with flavor.
The food was incredible! The pulled pork dinner came with a generous serving, along with two sides and cornbread, which was delightful! While we waited for our meal, we had a great time playing ping-pong. I highly recommend this restaurant!
