I had great expectations for lunch at the CSCYC. When we arrived we were asked if we had a reservation. As we didn't have a reservation, we were asked to sit in a waiting area while the staff organised a table for us. During lunch the dining area was never full. So why did we have to sit and wait while the staff decided where to seat us? In other eating establishments diners are taken straight to a table. I thought, as it's a Southern Cross Club that the food would be reasonably priced. However the entrees are $20 and the mains are $30 - $40. The club is located in a lovely spot overlooking the lake. I had the fish basket which was not specially nice and at $32 could have been better. My partner had ravioli which she said was very "cheesy". Halfway thru the meal she found a piece of plastic in the dish. The management did not charge for that meal. My comments about the taste of the foods are of course based on my expectations, however the toughness and dryness of the medley of slow cooked pork that my friend had would have dented the expectations of a larger sample of diners. I have dined at all the Southern Cross outlets and know that they can do better.
I've been to the Canberra Yacht Club for several functions over a number of years, it's always been good capitalising on it's great location.I hadn't been to the restaurant for about 2 years, it's always been good but they seem to have lifted their service standards.The only criticism I'd have is for a restaurant that is obviously setting high standards in service the tables are a little small for four and they are a little close together - it was a bit like getting Business Class service while seated in Cattle Class.Overall very good.
By far the best fish and chips we found in Canberra. Great location. Wonderful view. Fast order. Fresh fish. Good crunch and it's not the type of crunch that easily goes soggy. It's the hard you can hear it when you bite the fish piece kind of crunch. And that well seasoned crunch urges you to take another bite. Same to chips. Top up with a cold beer. That makes a perfect summer brunch.

Came here for a Christmas lunch and had an ok experience with the special Christmas menu. The menu overall looked great and festive yet the execution needs more work.
A salt and pepper squid was quite salty. If only the salad can be a bit more generous to cut through the saltiness.
The turkey was dry although cranberry sauce had good flavour.
Finally, finally finally! Great fish and chips in Canberra and to make it better, it's right next to the lake! It's almost like eating at the beach, but not really, because it is Canberra and it lacks anything close to a beach. Snapper serves crispy and fresh seafood from its humble abode beneath...
Was there on Sunday to check it out. Great for a Sunday session with plenty of families and a great outdoor area with chairs and grass with views of the lake. Food was ok, not really something to write home about, but the atmosphere and surrounds makes up for it.

This is a nice place for fine dining lunch in Canberra. The crowd consists of retired men and women. The food is good, though not to die for. The view is wonderful and the service is very good. Prices are not cheap but not too outrageous. Yes, I would go again.
