Solmar is a delicious little place for Portuguese food in Old Montreal. We had dinner there last night. It was a nice change from all the Quebecois food we'd been eating during the past week on our vacation. We ordered oysters, mussels, garlic shrimp and the grilled calamari from the tapas menu. We ended our meal with chcolate profiteroles and the almond roll. It was a very cozy spot to spend the evening. I would highly recommend this place for a date night or special occasion. The servers were so helpful and checked on us many times to ensure we had everything we needed throughout our dinner service. Thank you Solmar for a memorable meal.
The recipes are not bad, and I would recommend their green soup in particular. The grilled cod, a typical Portuguese course, is a bit dry, but the fish seemed fresh and the sides were ok. The choice of wines is fine, and so is the service, but it is a bit too pricey, for the average quality of food which is served. The restaurant is a bit old style, and wants to be a romantic revenue for couples. The best part of the menu probably were the desserts: their Porto pear and their carrot cake might be worth alone a visit, so that maybe if it had been a bar, it could have got a higher mark.
I was in this restaurant because the price was lower, I was looking to spend the rest of my Canadian money, I had 50 dolares. The tables are on the streets very full of people. There came a Friday of bread well without grace and butter, a very small salad and then the dishes. for the price the food was on the level. has better and more expensive restaurants next door. I ordered a meat and came only with very oily potato, but the meat was hot.
We went to dinner at this restaurant. We had the opportunity to meet the owner, she was really nice, she gave us recommendation for the dinner we had a bless time with our family, server Manuel was great. Valoroso wine cabernet very good. We try Trio de gibier and carre d agneau. truly recommended, it is expensive but nice as well. Allergy friendly. No peanut or tree nut. Only, almond in one dessert but they put it separated from the food.

Manuel is the perfect server. Old world charm as he knows the menu and wines for the perfect evening. Truest one of the best evenings ever. We ended canceling at another restaurant so that we could eat here again on our last night in Montreal. Manuel and all the staff out did themselves once again.
We ate in the dining room which overlooks the busy street below. The room is a wonderful space. The service was excellent. The food tasted as if the kitchen was only going through the motions. In short, the food did not come up to the decorations on the table or walls.
We celebrated in grand style with lobster, sardines, seafood and steaks at this mediterean resto for my parents wedding anniversary. We were a large group and had the waiter's complete attention. A evening to remember!
Excellent food and service! Prices are the standard of old Montreal. I recommend it for everyone, specially if you want to try authentic Portuguese food.
