The wine bar is a sister business with the next door Bert Ernie 's restaurant, and the menu items from the restaurant can be ordered while you sip your wine. We visited here on a chilly, late winter day, and with the fireplace going and the soothing music playing, we ended up spending a few hours here. As it was a work day, the place wasn 't too busy, and our food and wine were delivered quickly. Everything we had from the food menu was delicious, and the bar staff was very knowledgeable about the selection of wines the bar offered. All in all, a very pleasant visit albeit a bit on a pricey side.
We stopped in for some wine and appetizers. One of the wines we tried, the tap Pinot Noir, was decent, but the other, the tap Chardonnay, was not good at all. We ordered the charcuterie board and the seared ahi tuna. The charcuterie board featured cheap crackers, salami, a few slices of prosciutto, and three types of cheese—one of which was quite good—along with about six grapes, all for $30. Unfortunately, the ahi tuna was bland. The restaurant aims for a high-end atmosphere and charges premium prices for the appetizers, but the quality simply doesn't live up to the cost.
The wine selection here is quite intriguing, featuring quality offerings from French, Italian, Spanish, and American vineyards, with some interesting twists that set them apart. I began my tasting with a dry Riesling, followed by a delightful Rose GSM, and I also enjoyed some excellent Bordeaux-style blends available on tap. I only wish I could visit Helena more frequently to become a regular at this place!
