Sooke Harbour House

This is a high end restaurant, but without really being high end quality. Two of us had the four course menu; one with wine pairing one without. The bill was $277 without tip. The food was not worth it. The portions are tiny - any person who exercises a lot or who has a healthy appetite will leave hungry. The main course duck the duck was not tender (I could have used a steak knife to take it off the skin), and it was about 4 bites in total. The scallop/pork course had one scallop and the equivalent of two bites of breaded/fried pork. It was delicious, but very small. Very Very disappointing. I invited my daughter and her husband out for supper at Harbour House. This was meant to be a special occasion so I thought that this would be a fitting place to have an evening out.First I would have to say that the meal itself was very disappointing. My daughters main course turn up before we even had the appetizers on the table and was told that was the way it was ordered with no consideration to holding and maybe even reheating it or even redoing it. Five arrive for lunch get seated promptly at a great table, pleasant attentive waitress. Then it went rapidly down hill after an hour and a quarter no lunch we finally catch our waitress's attention and questioned the lengthy wait, she explained that every thing is made from scratch, she said she would mention our exasperation to the chefs. We then over hear another table of 6 guests that were already seated when we arrived, complaining loudly that they just wanted to pay for their drinks and leave! With out lunch. The food was outstanding — among the best meals I've ever had. Absolutely worth the price. The view was also beautiful, as was the dining room, the hotel itself, and the grounds. Our servers were all extremely friendly and helpful; though too-often absent — our drinks went dry several times and there was no one around to even ask. We had the 3 course dinner. The food was excellent. The presentation was 5 star. We also had the breakfast. The eggs benny was also excellent, making my mouth water as I remember the meal. Meals are garnished with fresh herbs that are grown in the garden.Well worth the experience.

what a fabulous hidden gem. beautiful helpful staff. beautiful room with a fantastic view and the meals they prepare, look far too beautiful, but so tasteful! will definitely be back and back
