South Press Winehouse

Southpress is growing and morphing, according to customer demand. Starting out as a cool new local winehouse, bar and bottleshop offering charcuterie and cheese, as people wanted more, so it began to deliver. 6 weeks ago, they had 1 or 2 meal items on the menu - not much to choose from one might say; however those 1 or 2 items were perfectly cooked and absolutely delicious - eg: housemade gnocchi with rich lamb ragu (probably one of the tastiest, and most melt in the mouth I have ever had). As this 'local' drink spot becomes more and more popular, they have responded to customer demand accordingly, widening their menu; last night we could choose from a number of starters, and perhaps 5 or 6...

We stopped in one Sunday evening recently for an evening drink. We were with a 2 wee small Cairns who were made quite welcome.The courtyard had a nice feel to it and was partially shaded from the warm day so quite pleasant.Service and drinks were all good. Only a couple of minor complaints - I wish Melbourne bar/restaurants included some smaller nibbles on the menu. Some nuts, some olives. Just small and simple.And gosh I hate sitting somewhere were there are smokers. I can just about cope if someone has a cigarette and makes a point of blowing the smoke up and away. And then gives it a break for half an hour. But when you have 2 people chain smoking and worst of all blowing smoke and flicki...

An attractive venue, great space inside and out. Although the service was quite good the staff weren't very wine knowledge and didn't explain the concept, we worked it out as we left. Long story short, good by the glass list, perhaps a bit pricey, turns out you can select a bottle of wine from the fridge or shelf, drink and takeaway prices were clearly shown on the bottles, a shame no-one explained this, it made the selection look much better.Food wise, a small tight menu of meats and small plates, really good range of flavours, including vegetarian options. I came due to reading trip advisor reviews and that its close to home.Mixed reviews but let me make this clear...I could not fault anything at this wine house. We shared small plates. One was good. The octopus was ridiculously chewy, and on commenting just got told that no one else had ever said that, wit the implication that we were wrong. I wouldn't go back. There's a lot to choose from in South Yarra. This wouldn't be my choice again

Amazing little gem in South Yarra! As a self-confessed wine lover, I enjoy visiting this little bar on the regular. During the warmer months, the courtyard out the back is amazing. Extensive wine list, simple yet delicious accompaniments, friendly staff....Highly recommend!
