Southern Porch has a great location, and is a nice looking restaurant. There is plenty of seating inside and out. The place is clean, and there were plenty of people working to tend to the diners. We had lunch on a Tuesday. We ordered the special for the day which was buffalo chicken tacos. We also ordered the Low Bird chicken sandwich. Our sides were grits and onion rings. We also order jalapeño poppers as an appetizer. All the food was good. The poppers were awesome though. There was nothing wrong with the tacos or the sandwich. When the waitress brought the bill, she mentioned they had taken $7 off and that she would cover the cost of the burger. Overall, it was a complete disaster! I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone and couldn’t wait to leave. The restaurant is located in an old hotel with a beautiful exterior, but the interior resembles a mess hall. I don’t understand the positive remarks about this place; they must have come from friends or family. Anyone who prefers their food properly cooked would struggle to give this place a good review. Traveled a bit out of Asheville to Canton to try this place recommended by our friend. No wait and seated in the bar section which was fine. Two of us tried the Bees Knees cocktails while the others tried some local beers of course. Also two of us tried one of the specials, NY strip steak and shrimp with a pesto sauce with sides of grits, collards, and fried okra. One tried the shrimp and grits and the other had salmon. Service was great and all staff so pleasant. Great experience!
The collard dip was fantastic. The pork-stuffed hushpuppies and wings were packed with flavor. Here's a breakdown of my experience: I dined in for lunch, and the price per person was around $20–30. The Brunch BLT is the most amazing BLT ever! Candied peppered bacon, fried egg, lettuce, fried green tomatoes on toasted sourdough bread with woodchips! My wife and I had lunch their today and it was delicious, great service and atmosphere too. I had the Shrimp and Grits, my wife had a plate that featured 4 sides. This restaurant is fantastic! My husband and I enjoy dining at independent restaurants when we travel, and this one did not disappoint. The food was delicious, the bartender was friendly, and the service was outstanding. If we find ourselves in Canton again, we will definitely return.
