I've driven past this unassuming place hundreds of times since I moved into the neighborhood in 2010, and decided to finally check it out. I was not disappointed!! My partner and I both got the roast beef sandwich with au jus. It was enormous, juicy, and delicious. Huge piles of meat! The clerk also threw in some free cookies for us. My partner thought the chocolate chip was the best I preferred the double chocolate, but both were tasty and fresh. Packaged perfectly for takeout, with the au jus wrapped securely in plastic wrap for travel. I also got a cup of strawberries as a side, and it was fresh and yummy. Oh man. So excited when I have the time to come here for lunch. I'd venture to say it is the best deli in the city. A bit pricey, but the sheer quality and quantity you get for your dollar is amazing. You can go to Subway and get a foot long and eat it all in one sitting. Here, the 4 will fill you up and if you eat a 6 you will be stuffed. I pick up a 12 and make at least 2 meals out of it, if not 2 and a snack. The staff is friendly and the selection of sides, chips, deserts, and drinks is great. Plus, if you eat in, you get a cookie free for desert. Effortless check-in. This place is undoubtedly the BEST sandwich shop in St. Louis—and quite possibly the world. They offer a wide variety of meats, drinks, and chip options. Plus, with any sandwich purchase, you get a freshly baked cookie for free. The customer service is EXCELLENT, and the owner, who I believe used to host DB's Delight, is always in a great mood. Those familiar with STL will know the show! The prices are fantastic and the sandwiches are absolutely DELICIOUS. And let's talk about the size—these 9-inch sandwiches are bigger than you might expect. Don’t overthink it; if you’re hungry, just get a sandwich!
So I must say I'm ashamed to say that yesterday our FIRST VISIT was to Southwest Market Cuisine!! They opened 1969!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Make your own meat and even put it against the Hills Salami. The customer service that the owner tipped us was incredible!!!! I didn't know that kindness still existed in a world like this!!! We met his fur friend. He was the sweetest dog ever. Kipp also gave the girls rocks that his father gathers from South America!! Oh and did I mention that the sandwiches are 7 layers???!?!!! I suggest you!! Not WALK! Come to this place!!! The best deli in St. Louis! Their meat-packed sandwiches are fantastic, and the sides are delicious. The desserts are great too. The owner's son is really friendly; he even gave my daughter a bag of polished river rocks. The prices are low for the quality of food you get. I've been going there for years and used to park my tractor trailers on the side street while enjoying lunch. Now I drive all the way from St. Charles just to get a roast beef sandwich. Kip, who works there, is really nice and efficient at the checkout, especially on Wednesdays!
Easy review. Simply the BEST sandwich shop in STL and arguably the world. Lots of meat, drinks, and chips selections. Free cookie with every sandwich and they 're baked fresh). EXCELLENT customer service by the owner I think he used to be the host of ' DB 's Delight. STL old heads remember the show). The man is NEVER in a bad mood. Prices are great and the sandwiches are DELICIOUS. Oh, and size of the sandwich? His 9 inch sandwiches are bigger than Subway footlongs. Stop thinking about it, you 're hungry. Go get a sandwich!
Southwest Market Cuisine is everything you could want from a local sandwich shop. The family and staff are warm, friendly, and make you feel eager to return just to spend time with them. While the delicious sandwiches initially drew me in, it’s their hospitality—along with their considerate approach during COVID—that keeps me coming back. Plus, they offer catering services, which is a great bonus! This charming neighborhood treasure truly stands out. Thank you, Southwest Market team, for being so wonderful!
