We've always like Spring Espresso for the coffee, but this branch was always a big cramped previously. The new expansion into next door solves this and looks great. Our food was lovely, particularly my Sydneysider brunch (sweetcorn fritters, bacon, poached egg, avocado and sweet chilli sauce) with a side of lovely sourdough toast, but the pancake stack and full English both looked good too. The bigger space meant that it was easy to bring a baby and a dog without getting in the way (though they don't yet have baby change facilities), however there's still the same problem as before of the long queue to order food at the counter. We were looking for a nice place for a couples breakfast and left disappointed, with a foul taste. First of all the coffee was cloudy and had bits floating in the top of the drink. Secondly after ordering a variety of dishes from the menu, the eggs avocado arrived. The avocado was hard and bitter. The poached eggs on all dishes were raw and had snotty whites. The sourdough was burnt and stale. Overall the food was served cold and was not enjoyable. The service was next to nothing, no one checked back to see how the food was. I do not recommend.
An outstanding coffee shop with excellently trained baristas who know how to make superb espresso based drinks! They have wide selection of coffee and cakes. They also have coffee equipment that you can buy and beans you can buy as well. I have not tried their food but the menu does look good. They can be counted on to make an excellent coffee every time!
I was in York for 7 weeks and went to Spring in Fossgate nearly every day! The coffee is the best in York and Shaun is amazing at latte art. The dragon was my favourite! Shaun and Tom (who makes excellent sausage sandwiches) were really friendly and it was a pleasure to see them in the morning. Thanks and see you when we return

The Flat White I tried was fine but served in a really small cup. My bacon sandwich wasn’t good, far too much bread with not enough bacon, the bread taste overpowered the meat. The man behind the counter was quite offhand with people just walking in, totally different attitude to people he knew. Not impressed.
My friend and I popped in here after having an awful breakfast coffee elsewhere a few hours earlier. The staff were lovely and the coffee was one of the nicest that I had on this break to York. I would highly recommend it.
Called in as we were passing very helpful and friendly staff making superb coffee. Small and welcoming lovely, refreshing drink. Great atmosphere.
