Then there's RALPH'S in Temple City, where I'm treated to the sight of union workers standing around in small groups, openly complaining about their jobs right in front of customers, with language that isn’t exactly family-friendly. It’s obvious that there’s no proper union presence among those employees! But on 9/6/2023, I decided to try STATER BROS and it felt like I was crossing from the communism of East Berlin into the freedom of West Berlin before the wall came down! Every employee who made eye contact with me greeted me with a cheerful "Good morning!" and then immediately returned to work, all with smiles. A co-worker brought his lunch in a paper bag, which included some chocolate rice krispy treats. He had four of them, and he kindly offered me one. Curious about where he found them, I asked which store he bought them from, and he said he got them on Amazon. I checked Ralphs and Vons, but they don't carry chocolate rice krispy treats. So, I turned to Instacart and discovered that Stater Bros had them in stock. When I visited Stater Bros today, I found only one left on the shelf, labeled as a discontinued item. I felt quite lucky to grab the last one. Unfortunately, if you're looking to buy chocolate rice krispy treats, your best bet is still Amazon.
I'm not digging the long lines at anytime of the day now. It would help if they installed self checkouts like almost all major supermarkets have. Also, some of the cashiers are super slow, it's especially annoying when they get chatty with customers or other employees, Lastly, I have no issue at all with anybody speaking a foreign language however if you're a cashier it's a bit different. It was my turn to pay and the cashier and bagging person were engaged in a conversation in another language. I had a question but felt uncomfortable interrupting the cashier. Aside of these issues, it's an ok market.
This has become my new favorite market! The prices are reasonable, and the quality is excellent. The customer service is exceptional, and there's a great variety of products. You can discover interesting and unexpected items that are hard to find elsewhere. However, I did have a side experience with a beautiful and delicious shrimp cocktail that I bought on a whim. It was fantastic at first, but later that night it caused me severe cramps that kept me up all night and had me running to the bathroom the next day. Great to shop here since it became a Stater Brothers and they widened the aisles and put a high emphasis on customer service. I was so pleased when one store team member offered to check me out and also help me out to my car to carry a pile of firewood even though I could have gotten a cart and do not have physical limitations he was doing it just to be nice. We had a friendly chat and he introduced himself by name and seemed genuine in welcoming me to look him up in the wines/beers department to ask for any help in the future! old fashioned customer service makes me smile!
Well this is a far cry from the Vons that use to occupy this corner. No pharmacy. It's peak shopping time. 3 of 7 lanes are open. Each line super full. And this checker has the balls to say I'm closed. No. Not with all these people in line you're not. Stater Bros. Y'all suck New observation on subsequent visit. Yes you still suck. Why have 9 check stands when you know damn well you only open half or less?
However, I do have a side note: I impulsively purchased a beautiful and delicious shrimp cocktail, which was great at first. Unfortunately, around midnight, it gave me intense cramps and kept me running to the bathroom all night and into the next day. So, I think I'll be steering clear of that in the future.

I truly appreciate this local hardware store. The staff is friendly and helpful, they carry a wide variety of items, and unlike the large chain stores, they really know their stuff.
