Passing this mom pop for the past 3 years off Hwy 9 in Black Mountain. It is rustic and doesn't look like much, but do yourself a favor and STOP HERE!!! The driveway is a little rough and needs grading, but you will be so happy you went. The view and ambiance are totally worth it! Get your favorite beer or adult beverage at the bar inside or the walk-up window. Live bands on Thurs- Sun. There's a schedule on the wall. We ordered a classic burger and their special burger, which was the Bacon Swiss. The gun was nicely toasted, bacon crispy hot. There was a Pico and Avocado with crispy lettuce, Jalapeños and not so thick Swiss, which is attention to detail as it changes flavor if it's too thick...
Stayed up in the catawba falls area for the weekend. Found this little place nearby and much closer than the 20 minute drive down into Black Mountain. We ordered takeout for lunch one day from Straightaway Cafe. They had a simple menu but enough variety to cover all the palates of our group of eight including a vegetarian. Several got the heart bowl, they all enjoyed it. Two of us got the shrimp grits, they were very tasty. I loved the charred corn and spice to it. We got the hummus, was good but the chips were fried. My daughter and I recently enjoyed a scenic drive to Straightaway during our visit to the area. The views from the spacious deck are absolutely stunning! We had a lovely meal and had a blast playing cornhole by the fire pit afterward. My daughter ordered the special: a Spicy Crispy Chicken Sandwich. The chicken was fried to perfection, topped with spicy mayo and just the right amount of pickles. The crispy seasoned fries were delicious—I couldn't stop eating them! Five stars all around. Love this local joint. Think flowers and a large outdoor seating. A small menu with local eats and good live music. Only open weekends as of right now but I can't complain. It's kind of a counter service place- you order at the bar and take a number. Very friendly staff. Limited menu as of now but plenty for vegetarians and meat eaters alike. I have had the nachos and shrimp and grits. Those shrimp and grits are amazing. So creamy and perfectly seasoned and sized. The nachos are huge- big enough to share. What a fantastic place! Just a few miles outside of Black Mountain, over the continental divide, it feels like you’ve traveled a hundred miles into the countryside. The drive is incredibly easy. There’s a charming little stage where Shaggy and Susie were performing, and they are amazing! Be sure to grab a table outside and place your order at the bar inside. I’ve had my share of nachos, but I don’t think I’ve ever encountered them topped with fried chicken strips before. They were absolutely delicious! The beer selection is great, the service is friendly, the music is wonderful, and the atmosphere is unbeatable.
Pretty cool place, off the beaten path. Good food and good drinks. They have live music which is a great thing! My Only suggestion is that they need to turn down the volume several notches. We were there with our kids for lunch and sat outside. Unfortunately, we couldn't hear each other talk and the kids kept complaining about the volume. This was a Saturday afternoon and it was some ladies playing folk music. Please turn down the volume and we will come back much much more! Beautiful scenery and a lovely place otherwise.
An absolute must stop if in the area. Staff is friendly and place is really cute. Atmosphere is relaxed and the view is beautiful. Indoor and outdoor seating with a super casual vibe. Small menu, but food is quality and delicious and portions are generous. I had the Charleston Shrimp Rolls with tots, and they were GOOD!!! This is such a great spot to relax and enjoy some good food.
Absolutely blown away by how great this place was. Mission burger was top 5 ever....German chocolate cake was best we've ever had. Who knew? This place is a DESTINATION. We will be back, even if it is not on our route just to try it again...so good!!! Reserviere jetzt einen Tisch
10/10 one of the best restaurants I've ever been to and I work at a restaurant so I can tell you the service and atmosphere was so wonderful to the point we came back the next day for our final mountain trip meal We will be coming back !!!
